A lame-duck president, an empowered opposition, a looming election: They're hardly the ingredients for a resounding White House triumph.
Yet President Barack Obama clinched a huge victory on the Iran nuclear deal in Congress this past week when Senate Democrats blocked GOP attempts to get a disapproval resolution to his desk and frustrated House Republicans settled for passing two related measures destined to go nowhere.
The outcome was especially notable for a White House with a history of bungling legislative initiatives on Capitol Hill, and a president known for a hands-off relationship with lawmakers, even his own Democrats. [ ]
Obama threw everything into uniting Democrats behind the accord, writing letters and flying lawmakers on Air Force One with him to Africa. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., gave the White House the names of 57 House Democrats to call in August; Obama called each one. [ ]
Lets face it. On foreign policy, the administration holds more cards, said Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Enough! The treaty has not been ratified.
This treaty is extremely important for $h!thead. It gives Iran all the advantages and gets nothing for this country in return. He loves Iran and hates this country. Plus he will get a Nobel peace prize for it, and build up his legacy.
That's because the Republicans threw in all their cards.
I'd love to get an investigation into the finances of those that supported 0bama and Kerry's TREASON. I suspect bribery and kickbacks are rampant!
The Iranian-American Political Action Committee, for starters.
When the awfulness of this thing becomes apparent, will the history books pin the blame on Obama? or will they point out that the Republicans controlled Congress?
Depends on how many liberals are not slain by the Frankenstein monster.
I question if this if officially a treaty which is legally binding.
Instead of having a 2/3 approval vote by the Senate, as required by the constitution, they came up with this half assed manuver, in which Congress could vote to disapprove rather than approve, and then Obama would veto the disapproval , and then need only 1/3 plus 1 vote in Congress to uphold the veto of the disapproval.
Pardon my language, but this is a half assed procedure of questionable legality.
I would love to see the next Republican president, hopefully elected in 2016, say that since it didn’t go through the ratification process, that this “deal” with Iran is not legally binding.
And can I mention media bias? This AP article hails this as a great victory for Obama, because a minority of Senators were able to filibuster a resolution of disapproval. The vast majority of Congress disapproves, yet it’s being hailed in the propaganda as a great Obama visionary victory. Go figure.
BS. McConnell orchestrated the whole thing to make it “pass” while striking a pose as an opposition. He’s a specialist in this theater.
Corker should join the democrats. SOB has already sold his soul ... if he ever had one.
So the stupid party with majorities in the House and Senate let the demoncrats give the mooselimbs $150 billion and received nothing in return?
It’s all about Obama - as always. It is a cult of personality. There is no law, no rule, no provision of the Constitution which can not be discarded. Obama must have “signature legislation”, “legacy” this or that, etc etc.
Right. How much of the $15B will go to the dirty, rotten politicians that voted for this Treason. The whole thing stinks. Could have been a few threats thrown in... like we (O and his ilk) WILL murder you and your family if you cross our Ass-Hat prez. Say it isn’t so.... How many honest folks are no longer a threat to this government?
The establishment Republicans (collaborators) wanted the Iran deal, too.
They sure did. Corker’s actions shouted that to the heavens.
That’s why the epithet “Uniparty” is heard more and more. This is one-party rule.
it is $150 billion
