Donald Trump was asked how long it will take to get rid of our illegal aliens. He was asked if it could be done in five to ten years. That's the answer most politicians give to any question, such as balancing the budget--it's a long enough time frame so they will be out of office before they are held responsible for not delivering on their promises.
But to his credit, Trump said deporting illegals was doable not in five to ten years but 18 months to two years. He is the first candidate to call for deportation of illegals and to set a short, definable timeline. Of the other candidates, Ted Cruz has been silent on deportation, while Jeb and Ben Carson have called for amnesty for illegal aliens. (And Scott Walker has had all of the aforementioned positions.)
But how can you get rid of 11 million illegal aliens, or even more, in 2 years?
Quite easily. First of all, we know exactly where they are. They are not "hiding in the shadows". Their kids are very conspicuous, because they are the ones in our schools who don't speak a word of English. They can be tracked from there alone. The Supreme Court has said that illegals are entitled to an education, but the constitutionality of that decision is questionable, and the Congress can act to limit the jurisdiction of the Court.
Second, once some illegals are deported many others will leave.
Third, once e-verify becomes mandatory, and illegals are cut off from welfare, most will leave of their own accord.

Attrition thru enforcement. Once you shut off the job magnet and enforcing our immigration laws, many will leave of their own volition. You also leverage state and local law enforcement to check on the immigration status of those being held or detained for other crimes.
40 million is a low ball estimate.
Now it's mostly ALL the freebies. That's what all the hand outs and sanctuary cities are about. But you can't tell that to most people. They go around and enjoy the fruits of low cost labor in every good and service they buy, but get religion when they fire up their laptop. It is the height of liberalism to punish businesses for problems caused by the government - and between welfare and border policies, this is a 100% government caused problem.

The reason we have not deported illegal aliens is not lack of means, but lack of will.
I recall the INS, in the early 1970’s rounded up about 30 Colombian illegals at the Jackson Heights Number 7 train station. All 30 were Colombians and illegals. The judge freed them all because he claimed the INS did not have probable cause to detain them. He wanted to know how the INS could distinguish Colombians from Puerto Ricans, who are U.S. citizens. The INS argued that they could tell from the way they dressed, their accents, and besides, they had gone 30 for 30. Held no sway with the judge who released them all.

nah, that doesn’t take much time. And it’s not a release of the list....you miss the point. It’s the I told you so moment when the liberalism that is certainly imbedded deep in the Donald comes roaring back to bite us in the ass. And it’s gonna happen.

That is SO YESTERDAY. That was back in the Cesar Chavez days when you picked lettuce in the fields and your kids and wife stayed home (in Mexico).
Today they’re FRONT AND CENTER and IN OUR FACES. No problem finding them, just as the author states.
So welfare reform is low on your list. Got it. Welfare(all government handouts) is one of the biggest draws foe illegals and that includes medical. Turn that off and a significant number of illegals will self deport.
All it takes is political will.
If a Christian can be jailed then illegal immigrants can be deported.

Seriously, the following factors are totally different now: A: there's now a huge legal Hispanic population, not the case in the 50s. B: There is now a much bigger and more activist lefty legal community, which will fight every single deportation tooth and nail, and enough liberal judges to allow them to win. C: Once some of these messy things go video viral, there will be backlash...there was no YouTube in the 50s. I could go on....but the Ike analogy is just a non starter.
Employment is one pole of the magnet.
The other pole is free government cheese; welfare, section 8, EBT, WIC, SSI, etc.
If all they could get from any level of government is a ham sandwich and instant one-way transportation to their country of origin, we'd save billions.
