WAPO: TRUMP, SESSIONS TO THWART GOP ON OBAMA TPP
breitbart ^ | 11 Sep 2015 | BREITBART NEWS

So you think Donald Trump’s demagoguery on immigration has created problems for the other GOP candidates? Well, another very ripe opportunity for Trump to make his GOP rivals even more miserable may be lurking right around the corner, and it could expose the same sort of schism between GOP elites and GOP voters that Trump’s forays into immigration policy have. I’m talking about the massive global trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Some time in the next six months — in late 2015 or in early 2016 — the participating nations may finally reach a deal on the TPP. That may well come just when the GOP primaries are heating up. Virtually all of the major GOP presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), all support the TPP, as do Republican Congressional leaders. But, in a little noticed move a few days ago, Trump signaled that he might be headed in a very different direction on the TPP soon enough. After his terrific and wonderful rally outside the Capitol the other day, Trump met with Senator Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and both men enthusiastically recounted that they had had a good conversation about immigration and …. trade. Said Trump: “The meeting was great!” Sessions is a leading opponent of the TPP. He has warned that the TPP could harm American workers and allow China to join the deal later without the approval of the U.S. Congress; he has also said that it won’t do anything to counter Chinese currency manipulation and could facilitate the flow of “foreign workers” into the United States.

I don’t know what you mean by coalition. I thought it was on his own, though he wasn’t the only American politician there. But what does it matter? He was not required to go and went of his own volition, either way. Maybe there is some protocol for there being a State Department representative, an ambassador, representing America for the funeral of a former head of state, but I see none for a Texan senator. And the Kenyan resident having been there, which he was, would have been more than enough.

Yes you are right, Cruz did vote against TPA on the final vote, but he was safe to do so as his vote was no longer needed to pass it. He also sold TPA and TPP, he was one of the most vocal sellers of both pre-vote. It is to his discredit he did so. I favor much about Cruz but this is not one of them.

There is a good chance TPP will come up for a vote before end of year and we will see who votes how.

Trump and Sessions are 100% anti TPP and TPA, where is Cruz going to be? Hopefully he will join Trump and Sessions and redeem himself but he may find that hard to do with his PAC money watching. I understand his dilemma and wish he had Trump’s billions and we could see he true mettle, but it is what it is.

Yes but let’s get all the facts out. Cruz voted to advance the TPA bill, which also included a worker aid package favored by Democrats.

Cruz said. “I cannot vote for TPA unless McConnell and Boehner both commit publicly to allow the Ex-Im Bank to expire and stay expired.”

Is Cruz pro-TPP still? It sure appears so, the Ex-Im bank not expiring was his problem. Cruz is pro-free trade, he has said so. I am willing to give him a little time to get smart on the issue because he is so smart on most other issues but time is running out and a vote on TPP is coming soon.

“Did he ever explained why he voted for it?”

I THINK I remember Cruz later admitting he was wrong.

That game of being for a bill but voting against it (such as TPA) once leadership knows they have the votes to pass it, is played all the time in DC for politics and cover.

Cruz voted for the first version of the TPA, which allows the TPP to slide through very easily. Cruz’s wife works for Goldman Sachs and helped author a paper with the CFR that described the need for this sort of approach toward trade. He also wants the increase in foreign workers (H1-B increase by 5X).

Cruz, when he found out that his leadership was crooked and tainted the TPA the second time through, voted against it.

How do you not know the Senate leadership can’t be trusted?

He voted for the first pass of the TPA, not the TPP, but the TPA makes passing the TPP very easy.

He didn’t vote for the final version, because he realized his leadership had lied to him.

How do you trust “Turtle?”

Guys, Cruz genuinely was against the TPA the second time through. He fought against its final passage.

His final vote was “No” because he meant “No,” not because his vote wasn't needed.

The reason I don’t see TPP passing is that we already know Obama does not make good deals. Many Republicans will vote against it. Unlike other issues, the Dems are not likely to back Obama on this issue because of the unions.

The GOP leadership will kowtow to whatever the NWO and international banks and corporations want. The leadership of both Parties is under the thumb of the same few, which is why the middle class is being screwed and then being sent the bill. The propagandists in the media then keep shoving frivolous divisive BS at us so the sheep are deflected from seeing this screwing.

As an example they both rig the system so that wealthy financiers/hedge fund managers pay a flat 15-20% tax as capital gains while wage earners are stuck with 35%. Then they use their pocket change to buy politicins. My view has always been tax all income regardless of source as ordinary income and then lower tax rates.

We need to insist all candidates will not be game players and hold them accountable.

I agree Cruz certainly came across as genuinely against TPA in the end. His words against Turtle and the other Rinos on the floor were very refreshing to hear. But (a small but) his vote was no longer needed and he did that to himself.

“How do you trust “Turtle?”

You don’t. Ted got caught out with his hand in the cookie jar. Simple as that. He didn’t expect the backlash, hence the “I was lied to” schtick and the vote against the bill after he was for it and after it didn’t matter anyway.
