Rarely one to share the spotlight, Texas firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz made a notable exception on Wednesday when he welcomed 2016 rival Donald Trump to Capitol Hill to protest the Iran nuclear deal.
The two Republican presidential candidates headlined a tea party rally in opposition to the "catastrophic" proposed agreement between Iran and six world powers in what was the clearest sign yet of how Cruz is linking himself to the GOP frontrunner.
Both candidates warned of dire consequences if the deal is implemented, especially the impact it would have on Israel.
In previous statements, though, the two have differed on what they would do with the deal once in the White House. Cruz has pledged to rip the deal "to shreds" on day one, while Trump said on "Meet The Press" last month that destroying the deal completely would be "very tough to do."
But there seemed to be no division outside the U.S. Capitol when Cruz and Trump embraced each other while they passed on stage.
"I like Donald. He's a friend of mine. But when Donald arrives at an event, he brings an army of TV reporters," Cruz said of his move to invite Trump to the rally, according to CNN. "He brings an army of cameras that show up. And Donald's being there -- he very graciously accepted -- means the mainstream media will cover the event."

Translated? He appreciates the Donald Trump Traveling Whacko Show making a special appearance. i.e.... the MSM has no interest in substance, just a obnoxious professional insult specialist. Too bad Don Rickles didn't live in his prime 30 years later.....he'd fit right in on the MSM political circuit.
Hey. Whatever works.
This govt is such a s&$- show the best we can hope for is Trump not being a rebound antichrist figure who’ll listen to the wonderful but charisma challenged Cruz
Sen Cruz has class.
If GOPe had any sense they would make Cruz its spokeperson and let him do what they are to incompetent to do...defeat obama.
Go Ted and Donald!
Liplock.
Lol, yeah the Trump haters. These folks believe only the “perfect” Conservative will do. The also are of the mind America must be destroyed in order for it to be saved and they happily help this to happen by staying home on election day.
Making me wonder how badly the cultists will whine when they destroy everybody in their path, and another milquetoast gets the nod.
Yup have you noticed that when trump says one thing thats slightly non-PC, these so called “conservatives” inner PC comes out just like a DEM, strange huh.
There plenty here on FR who say now as in the past they will NEVER vote in the general election for a Rep candidate who is not the “perfect” Conservative in that he checks off every box of the Conservative agenda. A nominee could be absolutely perfect in every area save one and that would be enough to cause them to stay home and by doing so add a vote to the Dems total.
It was these people who cost us the past 2 presidential elections. Even though I did not at all like McCain and was less unhappy with Romney but not exactly thrilled, both of them would have been light years ahead of the POS we have now.
I am totally convinced had Obama been defeated there would be no Isis problem as there is today, nor would we be seeing the race problems we have now.
Leaving tools in the box would be counterproductive and Cruz will leverage any available tools as he fights for the People...
GO CRUZ!!! Keep it up Trump!!
Many times Ted Cruz stands alone, but it's not by choice.
Quite a contrast between this meeting and the Huckabee low-rent decision to stiff Cruz - indicating that to Huckabee the issue (religious freedom/defense of marriage) was less important than Huckabee.Otherwise, if you are protesting, why would you not want a Texas senator reinforcing your message???
I’m certainly not a Trump-hater, but I would prefer to vote for a conservative rather than Trump.
LOL, every one of the candidates say they are conservative. As I’ve said before - the term has different meanings to different people. It isn’t all one thing or the other.
Nonsense. There is a roughly understood definition of conservative. Trump doesn’t fit into that definition.
Me as well, but that said ANY R nominated is better than any of the LW slime.
