Passengers on board a British Airways flight which was forced to abort a take off after an engine burst into flames have been criticised for stopping for their cabin baggage before evacuating the aircraft.
The Boeing 777-200 ER reached 90mph when the Captain Chris Henkey, 63, was forced to abort his takeoff at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas.
After safety stopping the aircraft, Captain Henkey ordered the passengers to evacuate the aircraft, but video footage shows many of those fleeing the aircraft brought their cabin luggage with them.

LOL...
That’s because Singapore Airlines hires subservient 90 lb girls with great legs who don’t know what an “outdoor voice” is. That’s their only requirement. Ask the passengers who survived Sioux City if they were listening to their flight attendants.
I don't think it works that way...
BS. I flew long before the “dudes” were hired. Your friend is dreaming of taking command. You, unfortunately, are right about the passengers not really paying attention to the safety briefing.
Your crap can be replaced. You can’t. And if folks die behind you while you needed your stupid laptop in the overhead in your overstuffed carryon four people had to help you cram in there, that took you thirty seconds to yank out, have fun with that mental baggage if you have a soul.
I remember a crash where a plane slid off the runway and crashed in heavy rain in Indonesia. The plane belonged to budget airline Lion Air and their hiring policy and uniforms for the stewardesses were similar to SQ, ie pretty, long legged with silk batik dresses slit up to the thigh.
I always enjoyed looking at them but figured they wouldn’t be much use in a crisis.
Anyway film crews arrived at the scene of the crash very soon and I was impressed by the pictures they showed of these slight little girls (several injured themselves) helping to drag injured men from the wreckage, climbing back into the wreckage to assist trapped passengers and basically standing by their posts and doing their duty when a big hulking man like me would be running away at great speed to avoid an explosion and fire.
You can see some of the footage of the incident here (two minutes in).

My little sister (the one who out shoots 97% of the men in her gun club and never practices) who was a stew for Delta has had to go from Sweet Sue to Lee Ermey several times during emergencies. She did well.
Flight attendants should go row by row getting people out and be the last ones out. Captain is ultimately the last one out. FA identifies as captains representative as the captain is busy managing control of the emergency.
Passengers are told whatever legal consequences to endangering lives by obstructing aisle will be taken cameras activated or tell those who want to get their bags to sit until the smart ones get off
A guy’s voice or a girls voice. Nurses are majority girls. They can handle these mass emergencies famously. They just need to know procedure and exude confidence
They should all see the film of the Rhode Island night club. Not every panicked person can get out at once. One row at a time and swiftly. That’s it or everyone burns alive in a pile
That the attendants allowed people to get their bags in this situation is horrifically out of order. And it is not because they were women attendants
That’s not right
I’ll quote. A friend on his way into a military academy off to a stellar career, the officer interviewer said, you know they’re letting women into the academies now. Will you have problems taking orders from a woman?
No hesitation, he said, I’ve been taking orders from my mother for 18 years. I don’t think that will be a problem, sir
No news on pets who may have been onboard.
Exactly, if everyone did not panic and just walked out fast or run out fast without tripping perhaps more would have survived.
I remember that image, too bad the person who tripped was not helped up. To see people all stacked up like a pile of bodies is sad while half of them were being burned.
I know that most Asian airlines do not allow flight attendants to initiate an evacuation. Some European carriers were that way, too. Not sure if that’s still the case. It’s been a long time since I bailed on the airline life.
Most of the “dudes” I flew with would have been good for forming a conga line and making sure the liquor cart was cleared out before heading out the door.
When I fly my camera is in my lap. I’d take that as far as I could; everything else can just cook.
But the “guys” the airlines hire as flight attendants are all homo’s. Or wimps.
I remember reading about the US Airways flight that ended up in the Hudson river. During the landing into the river, the female flight attendants did what they were trained to do: Repeat instructions on what to do over and over with a clear authoritative voices.
I'm not sure if a male flight attendant was on board (I just remember the article mentioned only female flight attendants), but based on how everyone survived that landing and post-landing, the women did a great job.
“It takes a stern though diplomatic fight attendant to take control and get them out asap, bag or no bag.”
A “diplomatic fight attendant” makes you go hmmmmmmm...
How diplomatic can a fight attendant be?
Anyone? Anyone?
Many things went wrong that night at The Station. One issue was people tried to exit the way they entered and didn’t use the closest exit.
In my retail days we had a small fire. People tried to take their carts of groceries to the main doors sometimes getting closer to the fire. I took a position near the back of the store and sent as many nearby people to the one of the rear emergency exits. Idiots then didn’t want to open the door because of the “this door is alarmed” sign. A co-worker kicked it open in frustration and forced them out. Some complained we were were rude and made them exit out back and have to walk around the building to get to their car.
