Those employed by government in the United States in August of this year outnumbered those employed in the manufacturing sector by almost 1.8 to 1, according to data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
There were 21,995,000 employed by federal, state and local government in the United States in August, according to BLS. By contrast, there were only 12,329,000 employed in the manufacturing sector.
The BLS has published seasonally-adjusted month-by-month employment numbers for both government and manufacturing going back to 1939. In the first 50 years of the 76-year span since then, manufacturing out-employed government. But in August 1989, government overtook manufacturing as a U.S. employer.
That month, government employed 17,989,000 and manufacturing employed 17,964,000.
Since then, government employment has increased 4,006,000 and manufacturing employment has declined 5,635,000.
The 4,821,000 people employed by government in August 1941 equaled 1 for each 27.7 people in the overall population of 133,402,471. The 21,995,000 employed by government in August 2015 equaled 1 for each 14.6 people in the overall population of 321,191,461.

Obviously, we need a Blue Ribbon government commission to study this idea and design a bureaucracy to deal with it.
All according to Obama’s plan to “fundamentally change America” from a free Constitutional Republic to a Socialist State...
...and he was elected TWICE by fundamentally wrong-headed Americans to get it done.
And, the output of government is Zero.
I’m surprised it’s not more than 1.8 to 1.
They revised what is considered manufacturing also.
Industries in the Food Manufacturing subsector transform livestock and agricultural products into products for intermediate or final consumption. The industry groups are distinguished by the raw materials (generally of animal or vegetable origin) processed into food products.
The food products manufactured in these establishments are typically sold to wholesalers or retailers for distribution to consumers, but establishments primarily engaged in retailing bakery and candy products made on the premises not for immediate consumption are included.

It was never supposed to be that way. Not in the United States of America.
I have no doubt, much of the astro-turf libtard political movement comes from the millions employed by government to protect their own selfish interests.
They don’t give a darn on how it hurts their fellow Americans all in the name of getting what they want for themselves.
They’ll use or misuse the power of government, to take, by force if necessary, from their fellow Americans, to enrichen themselves. Or to run up the country’s credit card and max it out for generations to come. We desperately need an Article V Convention to reign in all this corruption.

Actually, the government manufactures job stifling overreaching requirements for functioning as a manufacturer.
At least we used to have our own arsenals that made weapons.
I grew up in Springfield, MA. The Armory was one of the largest employers in town. Along with Smith and Wesson and Savage, and Colt right down the street in Hartford, we were a gun maker’s dream.
Who is John Galt.
That honestly fills me with dread.
Socialism at it’s most insidious.
Of course it is and history shows that several Chinese Dynasties were taken down because of overburdened governments. Its NOT rocket science.
We, as a nation, are dead. The gas tank is empty, we are running on memories. It’s like that point in the marriage wherre both parties have cheated on each other, they are just waiting for the other to file papers and pull the proverbial plug.
Net benefit is less than zero, it's negative.
Isn’t hard to guess how this will end. Everyone in communist countries works for the govt.
Like I said, mproductive States like Texas should just secede and let the bozos in Nyc deal with it... maybe sell NyC to the Chinese, I don’t care anymore... libtards are the worst people to be around with.
Exactly. I've battled plenty of these liberals, that later turned out to work or had worked for the government in some capacity. Much of it is they are protecting those great pensions they helped themselves to that have been a huge budget strain on the states.
You remind them of this and they ignore it. You remind them of the trillions in debt in getting us to this point, and they ignore it. You point out all the negative consequences of having such a large statist government, they ignore that too. They want what they want and to h*** with the rest of us. The other sad part of this corrupt equation is our media acts like it is part of the government too and selfishly acts accordingly.

As demonstrated in this under 4 minute video...(drum roll!)
PERPETUAL MOTION HAS FINALLY BEEN ACHIEVED!!
And, wonder of wonders, GOVERNMENT has done it!
Every living organism is driven by two primal instincts: Self preservation and reproduction (sex). The sex part probably explains why so many well compensated (OXYMORON ALERT!) “GOVERNMENT WORKERS” spend hours a day watching porn on their taxpayer furnished computers.
The self preservation thing can be observed each and every election when huge numbers of these “government workers” repair to the polls to vote for the candidates (virtually ALWAYS Democrats) promising to, at worst, do nothing to cut the numbers of “government workers” or, at best (which is most often the case), INCREASE the numbers of “government workers”.
VOILA: PERPETUAL MOTION IS A REALITY!!
Now, if you are not happy about this, please ask yourself which of the candidates for president all the way down to your local town council will shove a large monkey wrench into this freedom destroying, bankruptcy producing juggernaut to HELL then support him or her.
Better hurry. We’re about out of time!
(Here endeth the personal rant!)
And, yes, this HAS been around before but watch it again as a refresher!
