Ted Cruz to Mitch McConnell: Don’t schedule legislation to fund Planned Parenthood
Washington Post ^ | September 4 | Katie Zezima

Posted on 09/06/2015 2:30:48 PM PDT by Isara

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who is taking a lead role in a campaign to end taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood, will send Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a letter next week urging him not to schedule a vote on or help push legislation that gives federal money to the organization.

The letter, which is in draft form and circulating around the Senate for signatures, is Cruz's first official action against the organization in the new Senate session, which starts Tuesday. It comes as McConnell said this week that Congress won't be able to stop government money from going to Planned Parenthood.

"In light of recent and horrific revelations that Planned Parenthood is trafficking in fetal tissue and body parts from abortions, we urge you not to schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that authorizes or appropriates federal dollars for Planned Parenthood," a draft of Cruz's letter reads.

Cruz said he would try to defund Planned Parenthood in July after the release of hidden-camera videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the donation of fetal tissue in a seemingly cavalier fashion.

"The callous view that those in the abortion industry, like Planned Parenthood, take toward women and unborn children is an affront to natural rights and human decency," the draft reads.

---

The Texas Republican's role in the campaign to defund Planned Parenthood comes as he is looking to harness the support of social conservatives and evangelical Christians in his presidential campaign. Cruz is taking a lead role in a nationwide campaign to have pastors urge their congregants to call their elected officials and urge them to stop taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood.

WTG Cruz!!!

I support Trump 100% but this is something Cruz is good at, he’s a Senator and he’s taking down another one of his own, that is great!!!

I say again that Cruz should drop out of presidential run, endorse Trump, and challenge McConnell for senate leadership. I am sure with Trump and other backing he can unseat McConnell. Cruz could have more affect as McConnell’s replacement than any other role at the moment.

If Trump should win the Presidency, it's more than likely the House will move to impeach as their first order of business.

Ted Cruz has no future in the Senate. It is controlled by GOPe’s who hate his guts. He has a better chance of getting hit in a drone strike that ever being majority leader.

Cruz is well aware he needs to make a move which is why he has hitched his wagon to Trump’s star. Since Cruz is just not polling high enough to get the nomination he is only 44 and has all the time in the world. Trump is very likely to put Cruz on the ticket as VP or offer him AG in a Trump admin.

Why, he is consistently polling at the bottom. He has more future than being a martyr, which is all he is at the moment. If he wants to do more than talk, he should seize leadership of the senate from GOPe. Over the past year I have lost a lot of respect for Cruz because he is simply tilting at windmills and has only failure after failure. I have no respect for the martyr.

Our Standard: The Constitution

Ted Cruz has spent a lifetime fighting to defend the Constitution — our nation’s founding document and the supreme law of the land — which was crafted by our founding fathers to act as chains to bind the mischief of government and to protect the liberties endowed to us by our Creator.

Religious Liberty

Second Amendment

U.S. Sovereignty

Government Overreach

Stronger, Safer America

army-2015

A safer, stronger America safeguards freedom at home and across the globe. That’s why Ted Cruz has fought tirelessly to defend our nation’s servicemen and women, to restore America’s leadership in the world, and to secure our border and streamline our legal immigration system.

Life, Marriage & Family

Without life, there is no liberty. And ensuring every child is born into a home with a loving family provides the best chance for that child to achieve anything. That is why Ted Cruz has been on the front lines defending life and standing up for marriage when it has come under assault from activist judges.

Jobs & Opportunity

landing_bg3

The American Dream — the idea that anyone, through hard work and determination, can achieve anything — is under assault like never before. Obamacare, an overreaching federal government, and out of control spending threaten the ability of small businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs and innovate. This has to stop and Ted Cruz has led the way to bring back jobs, growth, and opportunity to America.

Mount a campaign to do so, get support of Mike Lee and others; get Trump to speak up. I suspect Trump carries a lot of weight and the anti-GOPe folks will step up. Think about it, if Trump demands McConnell resignation, calls on senate to act, endorses Cruz as replacement...

Mitch McCookoo could do it the easy way by telling his committe chair not to insert any funding in their budget resolution or any appropriation bills. The to add it it would take the 60 votes to invoke cloture to even vote on it. But...he will probably not do that or provoke a fight with Obozo, just kiss his arse.

I do believe the Center For Medical Progress has a few videos yet to be released. Hopefully Cruz has coordinated with them to drop the last few in response to punk mcconnel’s push to fund PP.
