Joining Lou Dobbs earlier this week, Former Texas Governor Rick Perry was asked to explain his stance on illegal immigration and border security.
I think we need to flesh everyone out from the stand point of of just the rhetoric. When somebody says, lets build a wall, then I think its appropriate to say, its good to have this conversation, its good that we are having this conversation that now for thirty years, this border has not been secured. Weve known its been a problem, said Perry.
Dobbs interjected that he doesnt believe a single candidate talking about immigration issues because weve heard it all before.
Good for you! responded Perry.
The fact is, until the media really digs in on this issue and says explains to me exactly what youre talking about when it comes to securing the border, because everything goes back to that. Whether its this issue about these people on welfare, whether its the cost to states when it comes to the schools You know all of the cost of this border thats not secure has been mounting up and costing billions and billions of dollars. So the issue all goes back to securing the border. If you secure the border, this whole conversation about the 14th amendment, those go away.
We know how to secure the border, Lou. The issue is, we have not had the will in the White House to do that and we havent had the will in Congress. Washington is completely corrupt when it comes to this issue.
Dobbs asked Perry what he would do to secure the border.
Lets talk about reality. Its 1,933 miles from Tijuana right there by San Diego all the way to El Paso, and El Paso to Brownsville. So you must understand really understand the size and the scope of this to really get your hands around it.
Then you must believe that man power and boots on the ground are the real key issue here. Whether you build a thats 20 feet high and 1,933 miles long, and you ask the question how longs that going to take to build and whats that going to cost, but theres a better way, I will suggest to you and its having the personnel in the right places, the boots on the ground in the right places. It is the strategic fencing and the type of wall, if thats what you want to call it, in the metropolitans and the aviation assets, Lou. If you dont have the aviation assets looking down 24/7, making the analysis of whats going on along that border, both side, identifying where the problems are and quick response teams to interdict, thats when you secure the border. [emphasis added]
Perry and Dobbs also discussed a key component missing from the border security discussion our relationship with Mexico. Holding Mexico responsible, assessing the foreign aid they receive, and considering our trade partnerships are all crucial parts of any strategy to secure the border.
Perry explained working with Mexico to secure their Southern border should be part of a comprehensive strategy as well.
I will suggest to you that we can also be of assistance on the Southern border with Mexico because thats where a lot of these challenges come from. Last summer, it was Central American kids that were coming up here, showing up here. It wasnt Mexican citizens.
Video interview at source.
Perry is copying what Trump said but just using different words all the while bashing Trump’s wall...Now there’s a joke(er)...
“His supporters owe America an apology. Certainly his FR supporters do. They knew better.”
I certainly was not one of them. Perry’s history of coddling Illegals was something that he OPENLY bragged about. But people gave him full credit for the Texas miracle, and while I do give him some credit (i.e., he held the line as well as possible on Obamacare and Common Core), it was mainly high oil prices that made Texas as strong as it became under him.
As Trump said (as best as I can remember):
“You know what’s hard. Building a 95 story building is HARD. Building a wall is EASY. I’m a builder, I build things.”
Rick Perry = Nothing more than rhetoric.
Rick. Stuff yourself.
“Whether you believe you can, or believe you cant: youre right.”
Exactly right. So right, in fact, it needs to be repeated.
The above statement is the reality, Mr. Perry.
Oh come on, that Scandal is just another lawfare attack by demorats in Texas. You shouldnt be using that against a Republican no matter who your chosen candidate is. You think they wont be finding a scandal for Trump when the time comes?
Gee, how nice.
Residency trumps citizenship.
Perry would discriminate against citizens from other states in favor of illegal aliens who had already sucked tens of thousands out of the school system, local and federal, only by judicial fiat.
First off, its a violation of Equal Protection. And a violation of the 1996 immigration reform act. And a rejection of popular will - after all, it was the vote of the people in Tyler way back in 1982 that was overturned in Plyler v. Doe.
I called Perrys office the day he signed the bill and told his admin that Texas had just left the Union a second time.
Thats what it means to to turn your back on your own people, the people who paid to put a third rate college jock in the left seat of a C-130 and eventually propel him into a position of power.
Theres a word for that. Starts with a T.
Good post, and with the availability of cheap video equipment and drones, the ability to do video surveillance is now pretty cheap.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Current law allows any illegal immigrant who has a Texas high school diploma and has been a resident of the state for at least 3 years to pay the same tuition rate as full citizens. Beneficiaries also must sign an affidavit pledging to apply for legal status as soon as they are able.
Pure BS. Just another scam to reward illegal aliens.
“We know how to secure the border, Lou. The issue is, we have not had the will in the White House to do that and we havent had the will in Congress. Washington is completely corrupt when it comes to this issue.
And Perry, without even realizing he said it, just admitted he is part of the establishmentistas.
hell...we can put a man on the moon but cant secure our border?.....the technology we could use could keep ants from crossing if we wanted to....how dumb do they think we are??
This has been going on my whole life and I am 75 but now it is Rick Perrys fault?
We can build a wall - or we can shoot people who attempt to cross illegally - or pick them up and deport them... lots of options. The Wall works for me.
No!
We want a WALL like the Israelis have here: https://electronicintifada.net/content/it-fence-it-wall-no-its-separation-barrier/4715
We want a WALL!
We want this illegal immigration problem SOLVED! FIXED! DONE! CHECKED OFF THE LIST, END,FINISHED! This has been going on long enough! Since 1986 when Reagan signed the amnesty bill, and you mofos were suppose to build a wall and end it then! Get it buttwads?
Didn’t congress pass a BORDER FENCE BILL? Where did that money go?
Talk talk talk is all they ever do.
