Statement of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis - It's a Heaven or Hell decision.
Liberty Counsel ^ | September 1, 2015 | Kim Davis

Posted on 09/04/2015 1:36:53 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Kim Davis released the following statement a few days ago:

I have worked in the Rowan County Clerk’s office for 27 years as a Deputy Clerk and was honored to be elected as the Clerk in November 2014, and took office in January 2015. I love my job and the people of Rowan County. I have never lived any place other than Rowan County. Some people have said I should resign, but I have done my job well. This year we are on track to generate a surplus for the county of 1.5 million dollars.

In addition to my desire to serve the people of Rowan County, I owe my life to Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Following the death of my godly mother-in-law over four years ago, I went to church to fulfill her dying wish. There I heard a message of grace and forgiveness and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. I am not perfect. No one is. But I am forgiven and I love my Lord and must be obedient to Him and to the Word of God.

I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus Himself regarding marriage. To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience. It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience. I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God’s Word. It is a matter of religious liberty, which is protected under the First Amendment, the Kentucky Constitution, and in the Kentucky Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Our history is filled with accommodations for people’s religious freedom and conscience. I want to continue to perform my duties, but I also am requesting what our Founders envisioned – that conscience and religious freedom would be protected. That is all I am asking. I never sought to be in this position, and I would much rather not have been placed in this position. I have received death threats from people who do not know me. I harbor nothing against them. I was elected by the people to serve as the County Clerk. I intend to continue to serve the people of Rowan County, but I cannot violate my conscience.

Lots of faux Constitutional Conservatives will be outed by their lack of support for Ms Davis.

Btw this judge could’ve given her house arrest but his harshness will show gay marriage is nothing about love.

That she could have done like Joyce Lewis-Kugle yet chose not to makes me suspect her motives are really about either keeping the government paycheck, attention-seeking, or a combination of both.

The State's position is Satanic. Why would a genuinely devout person continue to serve such a master when its true nature is so nakedly revealed? Unless it's the paycheck that is the real bottom line.

I think that the Lord is using this lady, her testimony, and the actions of a godless government as a mirror.

The days are getting fewer, shorter, and I hope to live long enough in this failing mortal body to see the day when Jesus takes all of us who believe home to Glory

Maybe she has bills to pay?

Sheeesh

Kim wasn’t the one publicizing this, it was the two guys that wanted her to sign their marriage certificate. That is why they made a video of it.

The broader point is: If you are Christian, you need not apply for ANY government job, unless you are willing to deny your faith. This is the shot across the bow.

If you’re a genuine believer, you don’t take a paycheck from The Beast.

As someone who has quit a government contract before precisely for this reason, I know exactly what making this decision is like.

The sticking point is the paycheck. Give it up and her problem goes away. But of course that doesn’t allow her to do the attention-seeking martyr thing or let her pocket money involuntarily extracted (AKA stolen) from taxpayers.

She fits the profile of a fake justifier exactly. They are epidemic here so I’m extremely familiar with it. The religious claim is a cover for what she really wants - the money and the attention. Joyce Lewis-Kugle is the example of what a genuine believer does in this exact same situation, and puts Davis to shame.

Cowards are cowards .... These pastors have let America slide into a moral abyss because of their idolatrous church tax exempt status ... They are pathetic moral wimps .... 60 million abortions are partially their fault, as is gay marriage ... Period .....

In reality it is not the job of the clerk to make these kinds of decisions. This is stuff the Governor and the SOS and AG should be standing up and doing. Backed up by their state legislature. The 10th Amendment.

I don’t disagree with this. In fact, many, many churches are now ordaining gays and lesbians as well as allowing them membership.

Exactly right Jim!

I am praying for Kim Davis, that our Lord has a plan in all of this, and that He will reveal His plan when He's ready.

Honestly, I admire Kim Davis' faith. She appears to me to be a woman of conviction and courage. Our Lord has a plan for her and as anyone who's read the Bible knows that our Lord has a plan for each and every one of us. All that's required of us is to seek His will.

May our Lord bless and keep Kim Davis near to his heart and protect her and her family from all harm.

And just so there's no mistake here, if her position was "I follow the laws of the State of Kentucky and the federal incursion is unlawful under the 9th Amendment", that I would have her back on. That is a lawful position for a government employee to take.

However, that is not her actual position. Her actual position is "The court order bids me to act in my official capacity in a way that conflicts with my personal religious beliefs." That can't be permitted.

As a government actor she cannot overrule the law in the course of her duties based on her personal beliefs - else, what are we bitching about Lois Lerner et al for? Lerner's acts were based on using the power of her government position to the ends of her own personal beliefs.

As we all acknowledge, Lerner's assertion that the Fifth Amendment (a private citizen's right) covered her actions as a government actor is grossly offensive and inverts the very purpose of that right. In the same way, Davis' actions as a government actor inverts the purpose of the First Amendment right to freedom of religion. These freedoms exist to protect private citizens from government interference; they are not levers by which a government actor may cover crimes (in Lerner's case) or defy the law (in both cases).

God is using her to condemn the nation .

That is exactly right. The petitions for redress of grievances should be directed towards Kentucky Attorney General. He is the one responsible to act to protect the 9th Amendment rights of the state itself.

If he refuses to act, then the next step is to petition the legislature to impeach him; and if that also fails, then the next available measure is to throw him out of office (the office is up for election this November).

I would also pray that she realizes the error of her affiliation with the democrat party, who supports abortion and gay marriage, and becomes a true conservative and leaves the democrat party who has sanctioned this immorality.

One cannot serve two masters. I don’t see any support coming her way from her own party members.

What she is modestly calling “personal religious beliefs” have a larger stature in classic American political and legal thought. She, in fact, is believing in the same God, with the same standards, that the Founders acknowledged.

If anything she’s too weak about it here. She has the right to say this is wicked in the absolute and there is a long line of reasoning that such “law” is simply invalid.

Saying it’s about the money is kind of laughable. I don’t imagine Kentucky state clerks get a king’s ransom and the likely upshot of this if she keeps it up would be to get dismissed by legislative action.

So anyhow, millions of people now agree she is standing up against what is wicked. And really she is, even if not with quite the words that might please you and me.

From typical Democrats, no, but this again could be a last bastion of Blue Doggism with politics that is strictly local. I’d want to get some details before being too harsh about that. Those hicks and rednecks down there are strange to us sometimes.

I wouldn’t expect her to speak of it now lest she make things worse for herself. But after this is over, I sure would like to hear what she has to say about her party affiliation and how it fits in with her beliefs.

It would be wise for conservatives to continue to point out that this is what the dem party stands for and that is why this woman is sitting in jail. It’s way past time for the self-described southern conservative dems to wake up and smell the coffee.
