Donald Trump is blasting Hugh Hewitt after stumbling over foreign policy questions in an interview with the conservative radio host.
[He is] a third rate radio announcer, Trump told hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on MSNBCs Morning Joe on Friday morning.
Trump clashed with the radio host on Thursday evening's "The Hugh Hewitt Show." Hewitt began asking him what he called commander-in-chief questions about international affairs. The exchange became heated when Trump mistook a question about Irans Quds Force as a query about the Kurds.
On Friday, Trump said that the broadcasters show is beneath him despite his multiple appearances with Hewitt since launching his 2016 campaign in June. Trump said Hewitt was trying to embarrass him by asking about obscure topics.
Every question was, do you know this one or know that one? Trump said.

17 months out? In 15 months we are in November of 2016. Trump/Cruz 2016
Trump’s biography, temperament, experience, party loyalty, anger issues, pro-liberal past, bragging, and knowledge are unfair topics according to his “conservative” supporters. When he’s elected, he’ll find smart people to think for him. He’s just going to manage the country. LOL.
You know what they say about assumptions right?
Cruz has a higher maturity level as I can tell when I’ve watched him than little Trump. It’s good Cruz is choosing to be friendly with Trump as Trump is in it for Trump. Trump says some great things about policy and what not, but it’s like he either doesn’t believe them, or likes them but doesn’t know. So a question got asked of him that was beyond his knowledge level and instead of politely answering the best he could, he just blathered and attacked the host.
Doesn’t sound good, isn’t good.
“There was NOTHING wrong with the questions. These aren’t “gotcha” questions. Trump just doesn’t know anything about the subject matter at all. I do. I could have answered these questions. Many people here could. Many of the other candidates could. Trump simply failed and is crying about it. “
Many? Oh....ok. And your point? There are questions you likely cant answer. If I asked you, and you couldn’t can I now disqualify you? No? That would be absurd? Really?
In hindsight if Bush knew jack about Osama in 1999-2000, then he should have been able to prevent 9-11, right? I mean “most” people should know who the guy was! In fact I recall the media using this same trick on him to “prove” how dumb he was, to our condemnation.
Presidents have people to fill them in on this stuff. They are not expected to have every little world leader and military outfit known to the smallest detail, no matter if some people that devour this stuff on FR may have it down.
I didn't hear the interview, don't think Hugh Hewitt is on the air in the Chicago media market.
I think Trump should address these questions by saying:
"Look, it doesn't matter who's in charge of these terrorist groups today. When I'm President, I'm going to eliminate each and every member of every terrorist group we can find, period. Do I care what their names are? NO!"
That's what Trump needs to say right there. Make the questioner look stupid.
Who should have asked him about the leader of Dirka Dirkestan.
Well it’s true.
Exactly. He’s very childish. Very insulting. If you don’t play nice with him, he instinctively goes on attack. He expects to be surrounded by yes men and sycophants. Yes, DT is enormously entertaining and delightfully politically incorrect. But he is not presidential timber IMHO.
This is the technique used by the media that might be called the gotcha question. Charles Gibson asked Sarah Palin about the Bush Doctrine. When she failed to give a satisfactory answer she was ridiculed. What the hell is the Bush Doctrine? Low information voters dont know who the vice president is. They voted overwhelmingly for Obama. I follow events in the Middle East pretty closely and I couldnt rattle off those names. CNN is doing its best to promote Trump. If he ever gets the nomination they will go for his throat. Are progressive ever asked these types of questions? How about: “What were you doing during those 8 hours of the Benghazi attack?”
It’s Friday, time for the weekend Trump cycle, and everything else going on can just go to hell.
There is such a thing as over exposure and I think he is going to find that out in the coming months.
Trumps numbers will likely go up again because of the HH interview.. nobody likes to see a person go into an interview and then get gotcha quizzed on details 98% of Americans couldn’t answer when it was supposed to be a conversation about overall issues.. fine HH took his shot and let’s see what happens next to Trump’s numbers..
Hugh Hewitt or Trump?
you have to have somebody come up and knock him off.. who do you see doing that.. Yebbie?
You’re right. Obama is stupid. So it’s fine, for some voters, if Trump doesn’t know about the preeminent terrorist organization in the world.
I’m rather savvy in world affairs and politics, and I never heard of them either. I guess this disqualifies me from ever running for public office.
I agree. Hewitt has joined the GOPes.
apologies, Hewitt. Was way off base.
This wasn't some effort to ask unfair "gotcha" questions to Trump - HH asked those questions to ALL of the candidates who have come on his show.
Most people running for president would know the Iranian terrorist group is.
