Donald Trump: I Will Know The Difference Between Hamas And Hezbollah 'When It's Appropriate'
4 September Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump did not take kindly in a radio interview on Thursday to being asked to identify the affiliations of various militant leaders in the Middle East, saying the host was asking “a gotcha question”.
Discussing Islamist extremism, conservative talk-radio host Hugh Hewitt told Trump he was looking for the next president to identify the leaders of major militant groups, naming the heads of Islamic State, Hezbollah, al-Qaida and its Nusra Front wing in Syria.
“Do you know the players without a scorecard yet, Donald Trump?” asked Hewitt, who will co-moderate the next official Republican presidential debate on 16 September in California.
“No, you know, I’ll tell you honestly, I think by the time we get to office, they’ll all be changed. They’ll be all gone,” Trump replied.
“The names you just mentioned, they probably won’t even be there in six months or a year,” he added.
Hassan Nasrallah has headed Hezbollah since 1992.
Hewitt pushed Trump on the question, asking him: “So the difference between Hezbollah and Hamas does not matter to you yet, but it will?”
Trump replied: “It will when it’s appropriate. I will know more about it than you know, and believe me, it won’t take me long.”
The billionaire real estate mogul has risen to the top of the polls in a crowded Republican field more than a year before the November 2016 election.
When Hewitt said these were not meant as “gotcha” questions, Trump responded: “Well, it sounded like gotcha. You’re asking me names that, I think it’s somewhat ridiculous, but that’s OK. Go ahead, let’s go.”

Hugh Hewitt thinks it is important for the presidential candidates to know the names of the leaders of all the separate terrorist groups? This is not 8th grade history, is it? Should candidates be tested on the capitols of all the countries of the world?

I sometimes get the impression Hewitt thinks he’s the smartest guy in any room he’s in. This question was pointless.
I’ll bet you could ask 50 governors if they knew the names of the terrorist leaders. Not more than one or two of them would. None of them may.

Questions of this sort generally meant as "gotchas" when applied to political candidates. Not that I'm a fan of Donald Trump, because I'm not.
One thing I will say for Trump, he’ll tell you what he wants to do as president. Slick Willie’s bimbo is telling everyone that they’ll have to elect her and her empty skull to find out what’s in it.

I dont know the name of either leader and dare i say it doesn’t matter.
It’s not like Iran where the person in charge is a tyrant and the VAST majority of young people would love to see a different form of government. See protests 4 years ago that obummer did nothing to help.

And you should check the industry. Trump is a mid-tier developer in NYC. He does not have a fantastic reputation in the industry. Most of his deals today come from letting others use his name for a cut. So it comes more from self promotion. Maybe you should read beyond what something besides what his P.R. flack puts out.

There was a heck if a lot less to know during Reagan’s era. Many countries and conflicts were never covered nor known about. We had no global communication and no internet.
I do not think the “Quds” were common knowledge to even most pundits and journalists before 3pm today, But hey, if people want to conitinue to play gotcha with it, that is fine,

I haven’t listened to Hugh in years, but I recall that he was one of the best interviewers in the media.
So I’m disappointed that he succumbed to asking such a nit question.
