...On Thursday, Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper published an op-ed by Orban in which he claimed that he was defending European Christianity against a Muslim influx by stopping thousands of refugees from leaving Hungary. “Everything which is now taking place before our eyes threatens to have explosive consequences for the whole of Europe,” he wrote in the op-ed. "We must acknowledge that the European Union’s misguided immigration policy is responsible for this situation."
"We shouldn’t forget that the people who are coming here grew up in a different religion and represent a completely different culture. Most are not Christian, but Muslim.... That is an important question, because Europe and European culture have Christian roots," he wrote.

I'd argue it was 1914. The rest has been death spasms. And it was the French and British at the war's end, drawing arbitrary lines across the Ottoman Empire as they divvied up spheres of influence, that created the a whole lot of the Middle East problems we have today.

A long time ago I happened to have caught one of those NPR stations, doing a piece on German students and their attitudes on things (teenage students speaking from the depth of their life experiences...)
Every one of them were saying how patriotism and love of country is bad, how there should be no pride in your own heritage, the usual “brotherhood of man” trite things.
And I thought to myself, the German race has been utterly beaten, their spirit gone, drilled out of them by socialism and white guilt. And if they could do that to as indomitable a people as the Germans, what chance do others have?

It seems like the Eastern Europeans, the Poles, Hungarians, Macedonians...are the only ones that get it. But in most of the Balkans, the Turks are a fairly recent memory.

It is. Actually, about a year ago, IIRC, there was some statement from one of these radical groups urging Muslims to take over Europe simply by going there. And the Islamists have made life so miserable in their home countries that nobody can stay.
That said, there are some Christians fleeing Muslim persecution. They’re mostly from the ME and are mostly families or women with children. European states should let them in because they are genuine refugees. Slovakia, I believe, is the only state that is saying it will admit them but not the Muslims (virtually all young single males).

Actually, the sad thing was that a lot of the Jews did support the Muslims. This was because of their Middle Eastern connection. It was also because the Muslims just saw them as a source of money and usually didn’t care if they converted, although this changed at times and sometimes there was more pressure. For example, Maimonides converted to Islam, only to reconvert to Judaism when he escaped.
Spain before that time had the Roman system: Jews lived in their areas, and since they were not Christians or people from a defined area that paid taxes, they were therefore considered foreigners and paid the foreigner tax. The Romans had done likewise centuries before, and when you look at Spain, you have to remember Rome before the Germanic invasions.
Visigothic law in Spain was very anti-Semitic, but was never enforced. The Visigoths were Arians, that is, not orthodox Christians.
