For more than a century, the tallest mountain on the continent was named after the 25th U.S. president, William McKinley.
Now, in honor of Alaska's indigenous Athabascan people, who had always called it "Denali," President Barack Obama is changing it back, the White House said in a release Sunday.

I have a friend that led the High Altitude Rescue Team and has been to 20,000 feet with a helicopter on ‘Denali’.
I text him the news a while ago and he replied back:
“Yes, we have been trying for many years so this will make Alaskans happy.”
“Like Cape Kennedy....the locals resented some uppity Yanks name was tagged to their land and fought hard to restore it to the original name Cape Canaveral.”
Not exactly. Alaskans have been calling it Denali for years.
Denali is not a river in Egypt,
Absolutely no Alaskan resident will refer to the mountain as Mount McKinley.
It would have been called Denali by now except the Ohio Congressional delegation have blocked renaming the mountain for the past 40 years.
Sarah Palin’s Secret Service codename was “Denali”
But it wasn’t named after President McKinley. It was named after the senator in attempt to give him more name recognition as he ran for president.
Never should have happened in the first place.
Okay Obama’s connection to the name change is evidently rather peripheral
It’s not Glorious Jihad since Islam is not involved.
Mt Obozo if I had my way.
Denali is a good name, I'm OK with that.
or Mount Barack....in honor of Bareback Mountain
[my most sincere apologies to the more tasteful amongst us]
he needs to take credit for something.....
Since he’s in the business of renaming things... he should start with his mama.....
but stupid bammy has to interject himself into normal people's lives like the narcissist he is.
ahahah INDEED!
Info:
“In 1896, a gold prospector named it McKinley as political support for then-presidential candidate William McKinley, who became president the following year. The United States formally recognized the name Mount McKinley after President Wilson signed the Mount McKinley National Park Act of February 26, 1917.[21] The Alaska Board of Geographic Names changed the name of the mountain to Denali, which is how it is referred to locally. However, a 1975 request by the Alaska state legislature to the United States Board on Geographic Names to do the same was blocked by Ohio congressman Ralph Regula, whose district included McKinley’s hometown of Canton.[22]”

This is the work of a tyrant. Newspeak is their word for it.

Did soebarkha consult them, or just act on his own as usual?
the “Yo Face Whitey Moment”s Obama’s greatest accomplishments...
At least William McKinley will still be on the $500 bill.
Went there years ago and found hundreds of people, most non Americans, waiting for buses to look at the mountain. Tried to drive the road to visit and found guards that turned us away. Left and will never return.
