A statue of Jefferson Davis has been removed from its place on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin after a failed appeal by a Confederate heritage group.
Crews could be seen Sunday morning removing the statue of the Confederate president from its place near the university's iconic clock tower.

“Well, apparently its okay to mess with Texas, after all.”
That all went out the window with GWB. I thought the ‘don’t mess with TX’ still meant something and I was sure that, as a Texan, W would be a stalwart on conservative issues.
At the very least he wouldn’t have caved to the muslims after 9.11.
You know the rest of the story.
*&^%^&$%^%&!!
I guess Governor Perry has gone the way of Governor Haley of SC?
What the hell is wrong with these people?
Will the University remove the statue of the President of the New Confederacy when the University fails to learn from history and is doomed to repeat it.
I guess Governor Perry has gone the way of Governor Haley of SC?

Perry isn’t govenor now. However he probably would have allowed/done the same.
I hope my Great Grandfather isn't seeing this from his home in Heaven. He is part of that heritage that is being buried.
He was a Confederate cavalry soldier, and was severely wounded during the last week of the war in a skirmish with Federal troops near Brownsville. The rifle ball in his hip couldn't be removed by the Federal army doctors without killing him, and it remained lodged in his hip joint until he died 49 years later.
I don't know how he would feel if he could see what's happening in the state he fought for, but if he could I seriously doubt he would like like what he's seeing. He was too poor to own slaves, so he can't be blamed for what's going on now days

So when is the University of Texas at Austin going to change the name of its Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs?
Killed all them Mexicans, right??

“Not another dime.”
Make sure you tell them why.
Me, either—but my RN degree is from UT Galveston—because it was close to Beaumont so I could get home more often.
The UT administration is apparently resplendent with fools, very gullible fools. Send not your children there.
Well he was white, wasn't he?
That could be becoming the case.
But I keep in mind that UT is in Austin. Austin is really not part of Texas...not really. :)
(No offense meant to any Austin Freepers...but ya know it’s true!)
What an anti-intellectual thing to do. I thought universities were supposed to be centers of learning and open-mindedness. But “only for me and not for thee.”.
I truly think that last bastions of true bigotry are the universities of western civilization.
One more thing - how does that differ from ISIS blowing up ancient artifacts honoring Buddha?
This is a classic example of liberal academia grouphate and groupthink. UT is infamous for this crap.
“When Texas secedes, were leaving Austin behind.”
No. But it will have to be cleansed.

Sam Houston was vociferously opposed to Texas joining the war or the Confederacy.
