Multiple professors at Washington State University have explicitly told students their grades will suffer if they use terms such as illegal alien, "male," and female, or if they fail to defer to non-white students.
According to the syllabus for Selena Lester Breikss Women & Popular Culture class, students risk a failing grade if they use any common descriptors that Breikss considers oppressive and hateful language.
The punishment for repeatedly using the banned words, Breikss warns, includes but [is] not limited to removal from the class without attendance or participation points, failure of the assignment, and in extreme cases failure for the semester.
Breikss is not the only WSU faculty member implementing such policies.
Much like in Selena Breiksss classroom, students taking Professor Rebecca Fowlers Introduction to Comparative Ethnic Studies course will see their grades suffer if they use the term illegal alien in their assigned writing.
According to her syllabus, students will lose one point every time they use the words illegal alien or illegals rather than the preferred terms of undocumented migrants/immigrants/persons. Throughout the course, Fowler says, students will come to recognize how white privilege functions in everyday social structures and institutions.

When I was a child I remember being taught: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”
Today’s school and college children are taught to fear words of any and every type because “they may bruise their little egos and fragile minds.”
I want to pull a Clockwork Orange on some of these FReepers regarding that episode.
Anyone taking a class that useless deserves to fail. The professor is wrong too, but anyone with a functioning brain should recognize that from the course title alone, before hearing the course policies.
How does Washington State University allow a professor to exert this kind of twisted crap on their students without stepping up? Any normal human being would shut this clown down. For thousands of years, the vernacular of normal people recognized and used those terms. Along comes professor Dodo and suddenly those terms are no good? Baloney! I will keep saying male, female and illegal alien. People recognize those terms and will continue to use them for a long, long time.
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
A lot of elective courses are used to fill up requirements; and the best ones are usually really loaded. Sometimes the lousy ones are the last choices left.

Because they have to take some ‘diversity’ classes, to fill requirements.
I would suggest that parents pay real attention to their kids’ college educations. Too many just send them off, without paying real attention to the courses that the students choose.
This stuff couldn’t happen, if the Parents - who are paying the bills! - would PAY ATTENTION!
