Yes. It is. It is sad and yet so bizarre.
I have ridden on tanks in the Marine Corps and this is precisely why it is frowned upon not to mention that tanks are big targets and being close to them in certain instances is dangerous. The visibility for the driver is poor and they tend to run over things. The concussion from the muzzle blast when one is close is stunning as well.

If I read that correctly, the son-in-law is 8 years older than his father-in-law.
From the LA Times article, it would appear as though the M5 was modified and no longer has a turret. Basically making it a weak APC.
The M5 was a piece of junk anyways. Ditto to the M4 Sherman.
