If these things went up against MK V Panzers, I'm surprised there are any left to run over people.
From the LA Times article, it would appear as though the M5 was modified and no longer has a turret. Basically making it a weak APC.
The M5 was a piece of junk anyways. Ditto to the M4 Sherman.
Not too often I think.
There were few Panzers and lots of infantry.
And this was a reconnaissance vehicle.
Biggest problem with this is that it was underarmed even for for its job. Hence the Chaffee.
These saw more service in the Pacific...Japanese tanks (when they had them) were pretty pathetic.
Your picture is of a “Jeb Stuart” light tank not a Sherman. You are right though; we built thousands but lost them at 4/1 against Tighers and Panthers
70th Armor crews were known to wire a bazooka under the 37mm [about an inch-and-a-half bore diameter] main gun tube and then connect it to the driver's horn button. Taking on a Mk V Panther would have been a bit much, but against the more usual German armoured car, halftrack or MkIII/MK IV tanks, it seemed to work okay, particularly at night or in early morning fog. But you only got one chance.
I’d love to have one, but I doubt it would fit in my garage...
