Military Sources, "About 50 N. Korean Submarines Left Their Bases...Can't be Located"

2015.08.23 15:23

/begin my translation

Dozens of N. Korean submarines left their bases at both Eastern and Western coast, and can't be located. Military are increasing their surveillance capability to track them, it is confirmed.

That accounts for 70% of (N. Korea's) submarine fleet, which totals 70 ships. This is the largest rate of deployment since the Korean War.

Military sources said, "This is 10 times more than their normal deployment level. Dozens of them left their bases at both coasts, and we are unable to track them."

They said, "70% of their submarine fleet is not located. We are increasing our surveillance capability to find them."

They suspect that the unusually high level of N. Korea's submarine movements may be for further military provocation, and raised their level of alert.

N. Korea also more than doubled its front-line deployment of artillery power, since the high-level talks began.

The sources said, "Since the talks began, their front-line artillery power has more than doubled."

Here of late I've been having recurring hankerings for gillnetting me a submarine.

It could be done.

Large mesh. Just small enough to catch on the conning tower. Webbing as it were, made of tough & strong cordage, just strong enough to fold and drag enough of a spread floating-just-under-the-surface and down a few hundred feet net, onto the side of the boat and trail to snag the tail and hopefully propellers.

Enough slack so that it could be dragged, and drag along surface bouys to show a V marks the spot, would be key. Maybe.

It would take a hell of a boat to pack the net on deck, and specialized hauling gear to retrieve it when empty for resetting it.

I used to fish driftnet swordfish, so I sort-a have a clue...

Interesting “tanks.” They look more like armoured self-propelled artillery.

Don’t recognize them from the photo.

hat might mean that the ILLEGAL ALIEN IN CHIEF has pulled out the P-3 Orion Sub Hunters from the Korean/Japanese "theater".

The U.S. Navy never had P-3s in Korea or Japan. At the height of the Cold War all Pacific Fleet P-3s were stationed at Moffitt Field in California and Barber's Point in Hawaii. They deployed to Adak and Midway.

Recently they've deployed P-8s to Okinawa. I have no idea whether that's a permanent plan or not.

MAD had a pretty small detection area, and for shallow depths compared to modern boomers.

I can see why they left it out for other sensors.

Also, our new sub hunter, the P-8 Poseidon, lacks a MAD.

So? Using MAD gear means flying low and slow, something the P-8 airframe isn't designed to do. It does carry the most advanced sonobuoys and acoustic analyzers available which are more effective anyway.

Based on the numbers it sounds like they sent out all the Sang-Os and left the Romeos at home.

“My money is on the South Koreans”

Everybody’s money is on SK.
NK will be destroyed.
It’s just that Seoul will take a pounding.

“This will knock the email debacle off the front page.”

Actually, it should highlight the parallels with the Clinton administration-North Korea deal that ultimately let them develop nukes and the current Iran deal - which Hillary supports. This should be a reminder of her poor performance as SOS, and her poor judgment - at the very least.

With regards the emails, this event should serve as an example of how volatile the world is, and how dangerous it is to do things like she did with classified information.

We might never know if the Navy is quietly taking care of that business even as we post here. It’s a nice dream.

Visit for a few days or weeks in Seoul and see just how much they hate us over there. You will be disappointed.

Can’t be located by AP/Reuters/MSNBC at the present time. Pyong yang hasn’t sent them all a news release yet.

It was pretty clear from the beginning and then , I believe verified after, that a nork sub sank it.

Military sources said ... and we are unable to track them

Do military sources typically announce to the public when their intelligence assets are unable to track enemy warships, or is this merely psych-the-enemy disinformation?
