European press reports are they beat the crap out of that jihadist pussy as he was about to shoot a train full of unarmed civilians. Perhaps they should have used his knife to carve the word Pig on his forehead as an example not to mess with US Marines.

Me too. I heard a member of USAF, A reservist (not sure which branch of service)and a Brit

Also read that the people in charge of the train locked themselves in and left the passengers to fend for themselves.

Heard the terrorist was insisting that they give him back his gun.

Seems he just happen to find that gun.

"Please check the batteries in your sarcasm meter."

Way too many latter-day FReepers appear to be incapable of detecting sarcasm.

That's why I frequently put this: "</SARCASM>" following my sarcastic comments -- and, when they complain, tell them to highlight the spaces following my post... '-)

Motive? Rejected by a girl. It’s always about the girl.

The article now says that the bad guy was taken down by a United States Airman with the help of a National Guardsman and a British civilian.

Actually, the replies kinda confirm the point of his post.

"Why can’t the story be reported correctly?"

Really, what the heck is going on? No way the French government has awarded them metals yet. That takes weeks to do.

That I would guess is the protocol, just like on an airliner.

Confused. None of them are wounded. These are not the guys from today are they?
Per the video, the guy in the middle yelled “Go!” and “Spencer” (apparently the closest) led the way. The guy who yelled followed, along with the black guy. The three of them, along with the fourth (British) guy, subdued the gunman; the guy who yelled, took the AK and cleared it.

Spencer was wounded and not shown in the picture.

I’ve noticed more and more FReepers are irritated at my superior snarkiness, too.

What shall we do? Seminars? On-line quizzes?

Thanks to you all, and cheers for all four men who stopped the enemy guerrilla!

Notice that Ethan Clive Osgoode brought us a new word, Nutriding. It would be appropriately used to describe sentiments of cults of personality in discussion circumstances resembling the atmosphere of a bawdyhouse.

Yeah; ever since I got back to the world in 70 I have had this fantasy of attending a hippy rally, or take over wall street rally, or a Ferguson protest rally.
I think I would start the party with a full battery of 105’s and a backup battery of 155’s.
First served; HE, fuse set for a 20 meter air burst(good for antipersonnel), second course, HE, with super quick contact fuse (good for cratering).
And of course for desert, we have BeeHive at 100 meters.
FIRE FOR EFFECT, dinner is served.

This must be one of the most strangely reported news story I have ever read. First of all it was very clear, two off-duty US Marines get suspicious about a guy carrying a bag, they follow him when he goes to the toilet and listen as he chambers a round into his AK 47, they then beat the crap out of him, getting injured along the way. Fine, nice and clear. Now it seems the guy started shooting at the passengers without warning, three Americans, off-duty servicemen certainly but not Marines, then decide to go into action and bravely bring the assailant down. Great, still a fantastic story, but did the media just entirely make up the first story as the ideas entered their head and publish them on news agencies all around the world without anybody checking the facts? And now we learn that a middle-aged British IT guy also played a role, not as important admittedly but obviously enough to be awarded a medal. And then there is this weird medal bit? Seriously amid all the confusion, with blood still on their shirts and their comrade still in hospital and presumably detectives wanting to question them as vital witnesses, someone, we are not told who, whipped out some medals for them and sent them down to the local bistro to get photos taken. I really wonder what is going on in this story.

Apologies for the lack of paragraphs, the page break is not functioning for some reason.

I know a little about medals and it takes a while for metals to be authorized. That does not happen in hours/days more like weeks or moths. Now I am talking about medal for bravery not service metals. Service metals are just part of the process, you qualify? You get the medal instantly.
