A US Marine who foiled a terrorist attack on a French-bound train was shot in the neck while disarming the crazed gunman.
The marine, one of two unarmed servicemen, spotted the 26-year-old Moroccan acting suspiciously and heard him trying to arm his weapon in the toilet of the high speed train between Amsterdam and Paris.
The gunman got on the train in Brussels and attempted his attack soon after crossing the French border. The 26-year-old Moroccan national, who was known to security services, came out of the toilet brandishing the gun and opened fire. Fortunately, the Marines were nearby and overpowered him before he could massacre passengers.
The suspected terrorist had at least nine full magazines of ammunition holding almost 300 rounds. He was also carrying a knife.
Unfortunately, one of the Marines was shot although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Spencer Stone, who is part of the U.S. Air Force, spotted the 26-year-old Moroccan acting suspiciously and heard him trying to arm his weapon in the toilet of the high speed train between Amsterdam and Paris.
He was travelling with Oregon National Guard member Alek Skarlatos, 22, who was on leave travelling through Europe at the time after returning from Afghanistan.
With the help of Anthony Sadler, from Pittsburg, California, and British IT consultant Chris Norman, they managed to wrestle the attacker to the ground, stopping what could have been a deadly terrorist attack.

According to the updated site, those are the three who were involved. 1) ? California; 2) Oregon National Guard; 3) British IT guy. You can see blood on the one guy’s shirt. Obviously, the guy who was knifed is not in the picture because he’s in the hospital. Looks like it was Air Force that took the knife.

It’s actually amazing that he got a neck wound from a rifle and it ISN’T life-threatening.
Add that to the other bits of luck about being close enough to recognize the sound of a rifle being loaded and cocked and having just the right guys close by to stop the jihadi, and you might get the idea an angel was riding that train.

I think the French figure any American that’d rush a rifle unarmed has to be a Marine. Courage knows no boundaries when it comes to branch of service.
If you watch the interview at that Business Insider link, it’s kind of funny. “And then Alex said to Spencer, ‘Go get him!’ And Spencer did!” The reporting is all over the place, though. One site says the serviceman was shot, but in the interview they said he got sliced across the back of the neck and that his thumb was almost cut off, while another passenger is the one who got shot. So I guess we’ll have to wait to get the whole story.

What amazes me is how quickly those medals were handed out, is that normal in France?
It is amazing to get medals mere days/hours after an incident. Here in the US, we’re still giving out medals for World War I.
