This report should make Donald Trump supporters angry! While taxpayers are often funding political debates, the Republican Party has the ultimate say over its own events. And while the GOP is supposed to stand for the principles of the Founding Fathers, it can be manipulated by the political establishment which cant stand Trumps conservative views.
The real reason why the GOP is focusing on Trumps threat to run as a 3rd party candidate is it would give them grounds to boot him from future debates. The Republican Party, to protect its interests, is probably willing to boot the front-runner candidate. And they have savvy enough operatives, such as Karl Rove, who are ready to do it
As Ben Swann explains:
Billionaire and 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump makes new headlines every day. But something he said that he wouldnt do during the first Republican debate could reveal some major problems with the debate system. Could the GOP ban Trump from its next debate?
The first Republican debate one week ago opened with a question specifically for Trump. Per Bret Baier:
Who is unwilling tonight to pledge your support to the eventual nominee of the Republican Party and pledge not to run an independent campaign against that person? Raise your hand now if you wont make that pledge tonight.
Trump was the only candidate who said that he might run as an independent if he doesnt get the GOP nomination. Not only is that a difficult path to take, but also an expensive one. Trump is probably the only candidate running who could afford to launch an independent campaign.
Because Trump said he would not rule out running as an independent candidate, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has now said it could ban Trump from the next debate if he wont make that pledge.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has since directly requested all Republican candidates to pledge that they will not make a third-party run, according to ABC News. Those who do not pledge might not get an invite to future Republican candidate debates, and would likely be restricted from accessing party data on Republican voters.
If Trump is polling at twice the numbers of his closest challengers and as much as five times the numbers of seven of the top 10 candidateswhich he isthen how could the RNC ban him from debates? Can that really be done?
The answer is yes. The RNC, just as the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is considered a private club. They make their own rules. The DNC isnt holding a single debate until Octobersomething that candidates like Martin OMalley arent happy about. But theres nothing they can really do.
Since many conservatives vote Republican to support our free-market, smaller-government agenda
This is sad news. The Republican Party needs to leave this critical decision up to voters. There is clearly a top front-runner (Donald Trump!) who is leading every poll by historic margins. He should be allowed to continue making his case and speaking freely
But The Donald MUST be allowed in every debate.
The networks covering the debates will never go for this.
They know that viewers of a debate excluding Trump will be in the 5-10 million range compared to the 24 million who watched the first one on Fox.
They may be biased, but they aren’t all stupid.
Under normal circumstances, if we were dealing with a Republican Party that was honorable, and not owned by self serving mega-donors, and consultants, I would agree with you. But this is the party that torpedoes conservatives time and time again, (e.g. Chris McDaniel) while asking them for their vote. Trump is right to not make his pledge to this party of back-stabbers. It’s the only way he can protect himself.
Its a BS headline
That too. Grade A 100% Bull Cookies!
A LOT of political water has crossed under the bridge since this crap was written. Last week called, they want their meme back.
.
.
Trump towers.
Give’em a taste of their own medicine: Take the pledge, and renege later, if necessary.
That’s what we’ve been putting up from these asshats in the House & Senate...
Posting BS.
I really don’t think even the GOP leadership is that stupid. But time will tell.
Big mistake.
That is not going to happen and we all know it.
Not gonna happen. The GOPe may hate Trump but they hate revolt and political suicide much worse.
I tend to agree with your assessment. If they did, it would be like setting off a nuke in the party - and the party would be over. And I’m not even a Trump supporter...
They’ve arrogantly bragged about how they’re going to crush conservatives and in the end they’re only committing suicide. They are now screwed no matter what they do. And deservedly so.
Is this a trial balloon to see if the silent majority speaks up?
If the GOP bans Trump, they may as well give him the nomination today. Banning him will make him so popular that he will get even higher poll numbers.
The GOP is so clueless that they are having the opposite effect of their intentions.
One of many trial balloons concerning Trump.
I don't care one way or the other. I won't be watching any debate. What a waste of time.
That said, the GOP has to be some kind of stupid to try this as it will make Trump's star shine even brighter.
“Likely”... “probably”
So really, Chicken Little, you have no idea.
