An administrator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison suggested at a recent roundtable conversation that, in order to combat "overpolicing" in the community, police should no longer respond to shoplifting claims at large stores such as Wal-Mart, and shouldn't agree to prosecute people caught stealing.
"I just don't think that they should be prosecuting cases ... for people who steal from Wal-Mart. I just don't think that, right?" said UW-Madison director of community relations Everett Mitchell. "I don't think [with] Target or all them other places, them big box stores that have insurance, they should be using justification, the fact that people steal from there as justification to start engaging in aggressive police practices, right?"

(another success story)
I think the students and everyone else should go to this guys home and help themselves to whatever they want, after all I’m sure he has insurance right? How can someone so stupid be in such a position of authority.
The other side of that story is some people trying to haggle over good but used items marked down to basically giveaway prices. I knew some friends who held a garage sale where they had many items in good shape priced at a quarter or a dime....a fraction of what the items cost brand new. Some people actually tried to haggle to get a cheaper price.
AGGHHHHH
I would be willing to support that view IF Wal-Mart Security is permitted to shoot to kill on sight without exposure to prosecution.............
BIG BUMP
Some people actually tried to haggle to get a cheaper price.”
I always have some things that I mark up on purpose - if the person offers $5 less then I ponder a bit and end up saying okay. They think they got a bargain and sometimes I get more than I would if I hadn’t marked it up. Just part of the game.
More idiocy from the faculty at the University of Wisconsin. No wonder Scott Walker rescinded tenure.
FReep mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Yeah, but I’m talking about haggling over the 5-25 cent items. One person kept trying to haggle over some items priced at one quarter a piece. My friends refused to relent.
Liberals aren’t just extremely stupid, they are severely and dangerously brain damaged.
My friends refused to relent.”
Good for them. I had total strangers stop and ask if they could come back later and just haul away everything that was left and they wouldn’t charge me anything “so I wouldn’t have to worry about what to do with it”. Told them “You’ve got to be kidding”. Even after all these years some people still amaze me.
And then you get complaints that the stores in the minority communities are price gouging / unfair, though it is making up for the higher rates of outright theft of cash, property damage and “shrinkage” of inventory.
