DETROIT A suburban Detroit official is trying to extinguish the use of personal flamethrowers, which are being sold online by two Midwest companies, in his city.
The companies, located in the Detroit area and Cleveland, claim their devices can be used for recreation or to control weeds and insect hives, clear snow and ice, clear brush and start a bonfire.
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts calls the proposed uses "pretty specious" and "silly," the Detroit Free Press reported. Fouts wants to ban the storage, use and possession of flamethrowers in Warren because he believes the devices are dangerous and could damage property and cause house fires, injury or death.
"You know something like this will be used by bad people for bad things," Fouts said, adding that he thought it was "unthinkable" such a device would be sold to the general public.

I don’t know, it couldn’t make Detroit worse. In fact I think flamethrower owners in the area should get grants for urban planning.
When flamethrowers are outlawed...
>>”You know something like this will be used by bad people for bad things,”<<
So can bricks, so can gasoline, so can axe-handles, so can tar...and feathers...you nanny-state loving douchebag.
Agent Orange and napalm would be faster and more efficient...
We call those things “pearburners”-not “flamethrowers”-they are a common tool on ranches, but I can’t imagine they would be used for anything in a city that wasn’t dangerous to someone...
I was expecting something like a propane weed burner but this unit is an actual flamethrower. Pretty cool.
I remember an old Lassie show in which a farmer uses a flame thrower to control a locust infestation.
I understand Detroit is full of locusts that need to be controlled.
Yes, but you can’t buy napalm and agent orange at the ranch store...
What's next? A ban on personal bazookas!??
The mayor can call these “pretty specious” and “silly,” but they’ve used them on farms for years just for that purpose.
I used one on my uncle’s farm back in the early 60’s.
I should probably get one of those for weed and yellow jacket control.
My wife has been telling me for years that my “backpack sprayer filled with gasoline” method is dangerous...
$900-$1600 each.
I’m going to pass on one of these. Harbor Freight should be selling knockoffs in the $30-$40 range in a couple months.

Mix a little Tide powdered detergent into the gasoline first.
It makes it thicker and ‘sticky’. Works a lot better.
The same could be said of mayors...
Hey, one never knows when they may have to defend themselves against giant ants.
Homemade napalm...
