And this- forgot about the EMP effect
At 10 Kt suitcase nuc
Everything within at least 1/3 mile or so would have been fried

And by today lethal radiation zone would be about 20 miles depending in winds

You can take Murdoch out of the tabloids, but can’t take the tabloid out of Murdoch.

Earlier reports were that this was a hazardous chemical storage facility. Perhaps nuclear waste too (the reports didn’t say what sort of chemicals were stored there). So there could have been all sorts of nasty things stored there. When it blew it spread the stuff all over the place...

It appears that many more than 14 or so people that was reported were killed.

In fact, if that explosion at Tianjin been a 1 KT suitcase nuke, we wouldn't even have cellphone video--the initial fireball and its related electromagnetic pulse would have shorted out every cellphone within two miles of the explosion point. And the shockwave from the explosion would have severely damaged even well-constructed buildings up to a mile away from the explosion point.

The thing about blowing up Tianjin is you want to blow it up an hour later.

Agreed.

Apparently, the contents of the warehouse might have included something toxic or radiological.

The company’s owners are in custody — I wonder what they have confessed to.

Amazingly few were killed in the West Tx Ammonium nitrate blast.
A friend of mines 70 something year old Auntie survived it with no health effects.
Amazing since the shock wave took the roof off and knocked the house off the foundation.

I saw the pics.

Try again. I’m sorry, but you obviously have no clue concerning the who, what, when, where and how of EMP.

Add to that you have no clue on what the effects of an 1KT Suitcase nuclear weapon would be considering your statement.

Do a little more research...

But a regular explosion containing radioactive materials could still have fallout

This could have been a dirty bomb

Or, it could have been shoddy construction, poor maintenance and lax oversight of the physical plant and the resulting fire and explosion released something that was being shipped.

BTW: People in China I know are telling me the death toll is closer to 500 than the 50 that is being reported.
