Hewitt, a nationally syndicated radio host through Salem Communications, will, along with CNNs Jake Tapper, moderate the next GOP debate on Sept. 16 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. Salem Communications is the same company that owns Red Statewhose founder Erick Erickson, a Fox News contributor, chose not to invite Dr. Ben Carson to his gathering of GOP candidates and activists this past weekend in Atlanta and disinvited Trump.
This weekend on Meet The Press in an exchange with host Chuck Todd, Hewitt admitted he doesnt think Trump can be president of the United States.
Hugh Hewitt, let me start with you, Todd asked Hewitt. Does Donald Trump have the temperament to be president?
No, no he doesnt, Hewitt replied. A disappointing part of this debate is it was a 9-10 debate in a 9-11 world. We have the Iran deal coming up, the most consequential deal facing probably the next 30 to 40 years in the world. It got very little attention. The Russian cyber attack on the Pentagon got very little attention.
Is that the candidates fault or the organizers fault? Todd interjected.
Well, its both, Hewitt said before blaming Trump for Fox News mistakes. Donald stepped on a lot of important stories. The New York Times has a story on Hillary Clintons server. Only Scott Walker brought up Hillary Clintons server. So I thought what he did to build the audience, it was enormous, at the same time I wanted a different issue set talked about so the Republican primary voter lost.
A moment later, Hewitt predicted that Trumps overwhelming support among Republicans wont last.
It wont last, I dont think it will last, Im skeptical of it lasting, Hewitt said.

You have not missed much not hearing his radio show which seems to be dying off.
Big amnesty guy.
Well he denies living in a gated community. But he doesn’t have to, the cheapest house in Newport Beach is over a million bucks so price alone keeps the riffraff at bay.
The only illegal that poindexter Hewitt ever sees is the one that cuts his lawn. The rest of us have to deal with the degraded neighborhoods, the graffiti, drive-by shootings and the other Acts of Love that mass migration from Mexico has brought to us.
Well I guess the good news is they are all showing their stripes so will know them.
They went from 20 to 12 debates. A 40% cutback.
“The moderator doesnt matter; the candidate must be ready.”
You’ve hit the crux of the matter. The candidate should know the moderator will hit at whatever “weak” point or flaw the candidate has - and needs to be prepared to succinctly respond and then wisely use the time allotted to make whatever point he/she really needs to make or can leverage from the moderator raising the issue.
In the Donald’s case, his simple rejoinder about Rosie and on further pressing his “Don’t have time for political correctness” was enough, with a little redirection to Clinton and her failure to protect women from her husband and actually attack them could have then been refocused to what he has done for women (hiring and promoting) and intends to do in his administration with / for them.
His biggest flaw which others will exploit is his apparent thin skin - time to show he can stand the heat and stay focused on the prize - get whatever his message is out. Limited time will be available in the debates (though he got plenty in the first one) - he and others have to show some political skills in controlling the conversation. Some will always complain that whatever question was asked was not answered - why should we really care - the public ultimately needs to hear what educates us on their thought process and where they really intend to lead the nation. Who gives a cr*p whether some moderator’s ego gets stroked by asking some “tough” question that was only intended to provoke a soundbite response detrimental to the candidate.
Wait and see. The nominating conventions are about a year in the future.
You don’t think birth control and STD testing are good?
Hugh is GOPe. He is Bushie all the way
And probably 10 debates more than the Dems .
It’s a huge mistake but it’s the RNC wanting to destroy any opposition to one of the three RNC amigo crowning.
.
“It sure looks like Salem has bought themselves a nice, big plantation for all the conservatives to stay on.”
Yeah, I was surprised to find out just how busy Salem has been.
I assumed that they were just the RINO Radio network that I had learned to despise over the years by listening to Medved and Hewitt’s endless sniping at conservatives and pumping of the GOPe party line.
But now it turns out that Salem has bought up a bunch of formerly independent conservative outlets and they will trade on past reputations as they nudge all of us sheep into the GOPe pen.
I don’t like it. They will be able to pull off this ruse for a year or two before everyone begins to smell a rat. A RINO rat with Salem tattooed on its hide.
does not need federal funding
Disqualified himself to be moderator.
Plenty of time to find a replacement.
I did not know that Red state did not invite Ben Carson. Do you know why was he excluded?
birth control overall is not good, no.
especially when they are giving it to children
I agree with you on that. Three quarters of what the feds fund doesn’t need fed funding.
Most of your fellow countrymen disagree with you on the merit of birth control.
I agree.
Yes, the debates are an equal playing field. Much easier to have no debates and just let the big money advertising for their candidate of choice set the agenda.
In all honesty Hugh has no idea what conservatism is. For this reason I don’t pay attention to his thoughts on candidates.
I won’t listen to him or Medvid. Of the two! Medvid is more lost in space IMO.
When did you last see a debates that was actually a debate and not a sideshow meant to destroy a conservative or outsider ?
What about that drone that had recently taken out your tag line
