As protesters mourned the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death in Missouri over the weekend, a local police union honored the officer who killed him.
Sunday was declared “Darren Wilson Day” by the Columbia Police Officers Association to public outrage and criticism by the city’s mayor and police department.
In a since-deleted post on the union’s Facebook page, the white police officer, who was not charged in the unarmed black teen’s death, was commemorated as “an innocent, but persecuted, officer,” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
The post reportedly went on to express support for Wilson because he was “thoroughly investigated” and it was found that he “did NOTHING wrong.”
Just before midnight, Mayor Robert McDavid slammed the post as “insensitive and divisive.” …
