There was a writer back then...a right winger and gun nut by the name of John Schwartzwelder. He was the right wing compass that kept the lefty writers on a middle of the road even keel. They finally outnumbered him and it was too uncomfortable for him to deal with all the socialists. That when the Simpsons went down hill. Below is the other writers ragging on John. I didn’t know that, interesting.
IMO though the show started to not be as good around Season 11 (you can’t find an unfunny episode before that), a few years before he left.
