A "progressive" advocacy group in the US has pledged to withhold millions of dollars in campaign contributions to Sen. Chuck Schumer as well as other Democrats should they vote in Congress against the nuclear deal with Iran.
Close to 18,000 people have signed a petition on MoveOn's website, called "No money for war hawks," the group told the Huffington Post on Friday.
MoveOn, which touts itself as a "community of more than 8 million Americans...lead[ing] campaigns for progressive change," has committed in this latest petition to withhold $8.3 million that it would have otherwise donated to the Democratic Party.
The group's move came less than 24 hours after Schumer announced his opposition to the nuclear deal signed between Iran and world powers last month.
"After deep study, careful thought and considerable soul-searching, I have decided I must oppose the agreement and will vote yes on a motion of disapproval," Schumer explained Thursday to The New York Times.
MoveOn, which has already launched a political campaign in favor of the Iran deal, refused to take Schumer's announcement in stride.
"We thought Schumer and the Democratic Party had learned this lesson a decade ago after the war of choice in Iraq," Nick Berning, MoveOn[s communications director, told the Huffington Post.
"We want to demonstrate to those who haven[t made their decision yet that there will be substantial political consequences for those who want to take us to war."

Know what’s funny too Big S.!
IF “Hollywood” is “...run by Jews..”
WHY didn’t we see MORE PRO-Jewish/ Anti-Iran Deal Ads?!?
or more PRO-SCHUMMER ads??
Unless, like some one else said above- he really plans to retire anyhow! and here’s his “Up-Yours” Moment to Obama- and a side-venue way to SECURE A FUTURE Private-Sector job!
Gotta love those false choices the liberals are so good at presenting. If you oppose the Iran deal you want war. If you oppose Obama you’re a racist.
Knowing Obama Moveon is allowed to read all his secret deals while congress is not allowed. I don’t think one single idiot in Obama’s regime has read a single word of the agreement. Certainly Obama has not read his own agreement. He has much more important things to worry about than some trifling agreement with a Jayvee islamic regime.
People who have never been on the inside of the liberal beast have no idea what liars and manipulators they are... Thanks for sharing Darth...
Not an up yours....but just plain honest about it. He could have kept his thoughts private....but he’s very influential. Obama must be fuming.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

“...has read a single word of the agreement...”
What IS going to be interesting- especially if I have to start today, to start making posters—
—is exactly, on what POINTS in “the Deal” Dems are going to say they STAND for!?
Is it going to be,” WE think it’s a good deal for point A,B,C..” or IS IT going to be repeating-word for word, OBAMA!!-—
——”....it’s the deal or War!” I’d LOVE to hear a Dem say THAT again!!
Ned Lamont was a nobody, and Joe Lieberman was similarly unbeatable...
Lieberman was in the doghouse with the CT Democratic base for years. They disliked his hawkishness, his piety; saw him as a DINO who relied on GOP voters. Schumer’s support with his base is strong, and worrying about Israel’s security doesn’t hurt in NY.
/bingo
He must be fuming Big S.!
But I bet He’s been Waiting 8 years! to try to get a Poke at Bush and the Iraq War!
-—Something that Hill-A-Breast, Bieden and more VOTED for!!
By the way...what DOES the “Iraq War” have to do with Iran!?
Redundant question! Catch ya on the board.
I wonder WHY there’s not MORE Reporting on the Iran Deal here??? The libbies at YAHOO NEWS are having a field day!

One impassioned MoveOn member, Mitchell Simpson, echoed these sentiments in a comment section on the Moveon site, Why doesnt MOVE ON get some guts and start addressing the soft tyranny that is growing into something harder in Washington, D.C., under Obama? Enough of the cheerleading, start doing something . If it was Bush in office now, youd be calling for impeachment. Shape up MOVE ON!.
According to MoveOn communications director Nick Berning, the reason the organizations leaders have not launched a national blast about the NSA program is because they have replaced their top-down decision-making process with a member-based decision-making model. The new system asks members to start their own campaigns by creating a petition on the MoveOn site. Only if the signatures continue to grow will MoveOn leaders eventually join in on the campaign.
So for those wondering why they have not received an email from MoveOn founders Wes Boyd and Joan Blades urging members to take action against the NSA program, it is because none the member-based petitions have gained enough signatures to prompt leaders to launch a national campaign. Berning notes that, while many petitions have caused leaders to support a campaign, few have been successful enough to warrant a national blast to the full 8-9 million membership.
This new system raises a question: while this bottom-up approach seemingly puts the power to act in the hands of the members, does it not also provide a way for MoveOn leaders to avoid addressing controversial issues that would be at odds with the current administration?
Advocacy groups lobbying in support of the Iran deal are racing to launch advertising campaigns, expand their staff and experiment with new social media tools in an effort to convince lawmakers to support the nuclear pact reached last week between Iran, the United States and five other world powers.
They are facing formidable, deep-pocketed opponents including Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran, a new group supported by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) that is preparing to spend up to $40 million on television ads as part of an aggressive campaign to urge lawmakers to vote against the deal.
[Groups opposing Iran deal are firing on all cylinders in massive lobbying push]
We clearly cant compete in terms of money, said Jessica Rosenblum, communications director for J Street, a liberal advocacy group that backs the nuclear deal. But what we have on our side is the weight of public opinion in support of this deal. Much will come down to our ability to make sure those voices are heard in Congress.
MoveOn.org, the progressive advocacy group whose affiliated political action committee raises millions of dollars for Democratic candidates and causes, is making the Iran deal its top priority for the next 60 days, said MoveOn spokesman Nick Berning.
Berning declined to discuss exactly how much the group plans to spend on the efforts, but said that since the deal was announced, MoveOn committed to spending six figures on advertising radio, television and online and hiring more field organizers in a several states to encourage lawmakers to stand behind the agreement.
The first part of the strategy is to get the message out that this is a good deal and the alternative is war, Berning said. The second part is to make sure the senators and representatives we need to defend the deal are hearing from their constituents that they want diplomacy, not war.
The group is also using a new third-party app on its website that allows people to donate their Twitter or Facebook account to the cause. The app allows MoveOn to compose a Tweet a day that will be sent out from all the donors’ accounts at the same time, in their name. The group first started using the app earlier this summer to mobilize support during the debate in Congress over fast-track trade legislation.

In all, Mr. Soros gave at least $33 million in one year to support already-established groups that emboldened the grass-roots, on-the-ground activists in Ferguson, according to the most recent tax filings of his nonprofit Open Society Foundations.
The financial tether from Mr. Soros to the activist groups gave rise to a combustible protest movement that transformed a one-day criminal event in Missouri into a 24-hour-a-day national cause celebre.
Our DNA includes a belief that having people participate in government is indispensable to living in a more just, inclusive, democratic society, said Kenneth Zimmerman, director of Mr. Soros Open Society Foundations U.S. programs, in an interview with The Washington Times. Helping groups combine policy, research [and] data collection with community organizing feels very much the way our society becomes more accountable.
And like Hans said..."If they don't tell us where they are, we'll never find them."
Obie....Iran is not our friend.
Thanks kcvl!
Glad you’re back and getting on your feet Darth...
