Carson: Trump third party run puts Supreme Court at stake
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/8/2015 | Sean Langille

Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson is warning Donald Trump that a third party run could do more than just put Hillary Clinton in the White House. Carson cautioned the billionaire businessman than an independent presidential bid would tilt the balance of the Supreme Court in a liberal direction for generations.

"If he [Donald Trump] decides to run a third party campaign, he basically will be giving the election to the progressives who will get two or three Supreme Court picks," Carson told Fox News host Megyn Kelly Friday.

Over the past decade numerous split decisions reveal the replacement of even one justice could tip the balance of power on the court. By 2020, four Supreme Court justices will be in their 80s, meaning the next president will play a pivotal role in shaping the future trajectory of the High Court.

Reliably liberal justice. Ruth Bader Ginsberg is an 82-year-old pancreatic cancer survivor; conservative mainstay Antonin Scalia is slightly younger at 79. Clinton appointee Stephen Breyer is 76 years old...

Should Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton win the White House and replace Ginsberg and Breyer, along with either Kennedy or Scalia, she could secure a very liberal voting bloc in which none of the justices were born before 1954. ...

Trump on his Supreme Court nominees. Said to Jake Tapper he would use a litmus test to put pro-life jurists on the court. He also said in another occasion that his nominees would be “Smart and Conservative” to another journalist.

Yeah, certainly can’t compare with Dutch’s average, right? .333 is a great batting average - why not SC picks?

Please don’t think I’m taking this out on you though, friend. I just get annoyed about the Bush 43 criticism on the SC. Roberts has disappointed in one key area, but he still is far more of a conservative than any of Reagan’s confirmed picks (outside of Scalia). Give me a court of two Roberts clones over O’Connor and Kennedy any day of the week - not to mention whoever HRC would put up there.

The only people that fear a third party run (and a dim president) are conservatives.

Party (RNC) elites are perfectly OK with a dim presidency and congress.

Because they know, for their campaign donors and the cheap labor express, it makes little difference in legislative outcomes.

Trump needs to sign and promise that he will appoint Conservative Judges...BTW He has already stated this, he said Roberts would not be able to put one over on me as he did to Bush.

I would sooner Ted Cruz be President, absolutely, but if Jeb wins, Trump could win as a IND.

I can see it now as the election winds down, people will be saying, I dont want to throw my vote away on Bush I am voting for Trump.

Those that vote for Bush may be the ones with blood on their hands...Bush may look for “conservative” judges that will support his amnesty etc, meaning they really wont be Conservative

It will be up to GOP voters to do the right thing and vote for Trump over Bush, Mark Levin and RUSH will be urging gop voters to do like them and vote Trump over Bush

I can see this happening, the Republican party may need to be abandoned for the good of the country.

Good point - Of course Reagan did nominate Bork. (who I still think would have been confirmed if he just went clean shaven for a few months)

You cannot discuss “millennials” without discussing race.

White millennials vote very much like their parents.

In 2012, white voters (age 18-29) voted 51% for Romney, and about 5% for the Libertarian candidate.

In 2012, non-white voters (age 18-29) voted almost 80% for Obama.

Each year, the “youth” vote becomes less white - and more Socialist.

In 2012, voters in the age 18-29 group were roughly 50-50, white to non-white.

In case you haven't noticed, the overwhelming majority of non-white young Americans are “clamoring” for a country that is Socialist and Pacifist.

... but if Jeb wins, Trump could win as a IND.

More likely, a Trump IND candidacy would give Hillary about 500 EVs.

As much as the GOP would deserve it, that's not an outcome I would relish.

Republicans can’t even run on “Think of the JUDGES!!!” anymore, that’s how badly they’ve blown it.

Yep. If they won’t stop Planned Parenthood they surely won’t try and select ProLife judges.

The shuffling has begun. Trump has fired his campaign advisor and says he will kick his campaign into higher gear.

This is not going to end well.

Romney would have repeated Reagan's landslide if the nation still had the demographic mix of 1980.

The Democrats and the GOPe have imported a new country, and it leans left.

With respect to Dr Carson, we already have a progressive scotus and electing the darling of either wing of the uniparty isn’t going to change that.

You got the memo, too, didn’t you?

All are RINOs, except Trump. No matter what position Trump has held on single payer HC (and so on), if Trump was for it, it’s okay with those who love Trump!

Oh, and don’t forget, all running for the GOP nomination are subject to purity tests. All except Trump, that is.
