Crony Capitalism: Not content with the billions it gets in government help, Tesla Motors now wants tougher fuel economy standards that would cripple its competitors. Is this what passes for entrepreneurship today?
In 2012, President Obama announced a new "Corporate Average Fuel Economy" standard that will require all the cars each automaker sells to get an average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
Given the lead time that automakers need to design and test new cars, they now have only a few years to figure out how to achieve that goal. And since there are only a couple non-plug-in cars on the road that even come close to 54.5 mpg today the tiny Toyota Prius C hybrid gets 53 mpg the only conceivable way to do so will be to force-feed electric cars onto the market.

Elon Musk doesn't miss a trick when it comes to subsidies and tax credits to his company and buyers.

Yes, it's true. I have wondered if his money/time for Obama influenced the scaling back at NASA. He is getting LOTS of money and doesn't have much to show for it when it comes to resupplying the Space Station by SpaceX.

I’m shocked to see that a corporation is trying to make as much money as possible.

Does that "54.5 miles per gallon" include the fuel to generate electricity and the manufacturing of the exotic and expensive materials that go into making the car?
I suspect not.

The thing that shocks me is an administration like this one that goes along with bankrupting our country by screwing the taxpayers.

Tesla Mounts A Self-Serving Push For Tougher Fuel Economy Standards Sounds familiar.. reminds me of:
MINUTES OF THE ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES, AGRICULTURE AND MINING Sixty-ninth Session March 12, 1997 "[The President of the] Nevada Eagle Forum, spoke in support of A.B. 163, and also expressed the belief that DuPont was the driving force behind the freon ban in the United States because the company was in danger of losing millions of dollars when their exclusive freon patents expired in 1992." Dupont had a replacement refrigerant, HFC-134a ready to replace freon.
IIRC Dupont funded the Sierra Club's campaign against freon.. some said.

I’d like to have a regulation written which requires electric vehicles to be recharged using only electricity generated by hydro, solar or wind generating facilities. If electric car drivers are going to pretend their vehicles don’t pollute, they should be forced to ensure that is a reality. I bet Elon would object.

That’s an excellent idea and there’s no doubt Elon would fight it tooth and nail, solar and wind are so subsidized the taxpayers could very well revolt.

Why did so many cities compete for Tesla to build their battery factory in their location.
Why do so many people who ride in a Tesla car love them?
Are all great ventures profitable in the beginning?
Has Musk been involved in any other successful ventures besides Tesla?
