U.S. Army Rangers drill in 2011.
A Pentagon spokesman said the militarys elite forces need more diversity, and without, the nations security could very well be compromised.
We dont know where we will find ourselves in the future, said Army Col. Michael Copenhaver, whos published a paper on diversity among the special operating forces, USA Today reported. One thing is for sure: We will find ourselves around the globe. And around the globe you have different cultural backgrounds everywhere. Having that kind of a diverse force can only increase your operational capability.
The comments came as USA Today requested and received information on the diversity of special operations divisions that showed only eight of 753 Navy SEAL officers are black one percent.
The newspaper also reported SEALs and the Green Berets in the Army are often the forces sent to the worlds hot spots for terrorist camp raids and hostage rescues, and as such, troops of all ethnic backgrounds could prove necessary for mission success. U.S. Special Operations Command declined to give USA Today data about ethnic makeup, and Gen. Joseph Votel, SOCOM commander, refused to speak for the news story.
But a month earlier, while speaking at the Aspen Security Conference, Votel stressed the need for diversity.

My cousin retired as a Major in the Rangers 20 yrs ago when the traitor clinton got reelected.
They were trying to quota blacks in. Very few, if any made the grade.
He said "They can't shoot, they can't swim, they can't read a compass and they don't want to be here".
Appears that the political commisars were active then.
You got that right.
So true.
Right on.
they are worse than fools. they are folks who would deliberately jeopardize the readiness of our military by following the latest trendy social issues, in order to advance their own careers.
Then explain how we have had the best fighting force on the planet for the past 100 years...
Well, there are still three in the course. Two in Florida phase and one was recycled back through Mountains phase at Camp Darby.
Blacks are underrepresented in any front line combat unit. That’s why they are also underrepresented among those killed in action.
Ben carson said it best last night when I operate on someone I see the person not the color. Huckabbe said it to, we need them to protect us, this is not a fashion show on how we look to the world. PC and the commie progressives are putting us all in a dangerous position and should be duly noted for fututre prosecution
I was 1st Ranger Battalion In the 70’s and it was fairly diverse. My first CO was black. It’s all volunteer, and you only get rejected if you don’t measure up - not because of your skin color.
I trust you were directing your comment to Copenhaver. I hesitate to call him Colonel since he is clearly a flaming idiot and politician more concerned about his career than national security.
