Because he isn’t stupid, and he is failing in his job tonight.
His job in this debate was not to sound like “The Last Angry Man” but to advance his ideas without sounding like an an angry child in doing so.
He is probably doing well with the far right, but horribly with the MOR voters who decide ekectiobs

Also it seems with the poor questioning and gotcha atmosphere that 10 is too many people on the stage. When the candidates get going they get cut off and to debate, and that is what this is a debate, another candidate has to butt in and talk.
The whole debate is just a mishmash of questions. We didn’t even get opening statements and a chance to hear everyone’s views on issues. It just jumps around incoherently.
