The bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bismarck has ordered parishes in western North Dakota to sever sponsorship ties with the Boy Scouts of America following the group's decision to lift its ban on gay adult leaders.
"I cannot permit our Catholic institutions to accept and participate directly or indirectly in any organization which has policies and methods which contradict the authoritative moral teachings of the Catholic Church," Bishop David Kagan wrote Monday in a letter to parishioners.
The Boy Scouts last week ended its ban on gay adult leaders, while allowing church-sponsored Scout units to maintain the exclusion for religious reasons.
"Effective immediately, the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Bismarck and each and every one of its parishes, schools and other institutions is formally disaffiliated with and from the Boy Scouts of America," Kagan wrote.

Good for Bishop Kagan!!!
Second that!
My church is allowing two boys to complete their Eagle projects and then we’re ending the troop. No idea what will replace the BSA but there will be something, I am sure.
It is complete idiocy to allow gay scoutmasters. It encourages pedophiles and given the opportunity, bad things WILL happen. And there will be plenty of opportunity.
It not like school where students are around their teachers 8 to 10 hours a day. On camping trips, the boys are in close quarters with the scout masters 24 hours a day and for several days at a time.
It is as stupid as allowing a man to be a scoutmaster for a girlscout troop and something that sane thinking people would not tolerate.
So why allow gays to be scout masters? Because the gay agenda is more important that the risk of sexual abuse of young boys.
I hear that there are the equivalent organizations springing up around the country.
The challenge will come in trying to keep the child raping homosexual perverts out of the new organizations.
I say that keeping in mind that BSA was started as a Christian organization.
Yep. The war has started.
End your BSA Troop if you must, but don't leave the young kids without something. I swear here is nothing the Left wants more than boys and young men to live an atomized life, with few connections to greater society outside of government, stuck inside playing video games or watching TV all day. Have you heard of Trail Life?

It was many years ago, but the Assemblies of God church I went to as a child had a parallel type of group called the Royal Rangers ... similar activities and merit badges and the like with a central focus on faith and service ... check it out.
...Addendum to prior post, I went and looked them up, still very active it seems, they also are active in 90 countries worldwide.
trail life is a feeble attempt to rationalize leaving the BSA
Our home-school group has a chapter. It would be a great thing to spread to parishes all over the U.S.
There's also a great Italian scouting hero, Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati, a great mountain-climber, apostle to young people, and a man who quietly visited the sick. (His parents disapproved of his enthusiasm for God.) He died at 25 of a fever going around. He had made so many friends and converts, thousands came to his funeral.
Why do you say that? Something wrong with Trail Life? I would like to learn more of people's experiences
In future Boy Scout troops will be sponsored by bath houses and syphilis clinics. And the badges they award? Well, for starters....
My big fear is what will happen to Philmont
There’s a group called Trail Life (I think) that’s an alternative to the homosexual-appeasing Boy Scouts. Was going to type “homosexual-friendly”, but couldn’t do it.
No, not for those who seek an organization that has solid faith based principles and requirements for joining, unlike the BSA...
The BSA is a secular organization now, strayed from BP’s original vision...pandering to the homosexual and social marxism crowd in order to retain its funding due to gross mismanagement.
TLUSA is in its infancy, it will grow, expand and become better...just takes time...
And I say this as a soon to be ex-BSA leader of over 24 years...
