Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) sought Tuesday to quash a growing speculation that Republicans would shut down the government over Planned Parenthood.
"We're not going to go there," he said. "I wish there was some way to convince all of you guys that there will be no government shutdown."
Cornyn's comments come after a group of House Republicans said they will not back a spending bill that doesn't also defund Planned Parenthood, sparking new talk of a potential shutdown.
The administration said last week that President Obama would veto any spending bill that defunded the healthcare provider, but Cornyn downplayed that saying that "we'll find out what President Obama will do."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sidestepped questions last week on attaching the Planned Parenthood fight to the spending bill, saying that sensors would work out how to fund the government in September.
Cornyn, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, on Tuesday suggested that a short-term spending bill is likely, but that it's "premature" to discuss what might be in it.
"We're going to be talking about a lot of things in November, a lot of things on the table. A lot of moving parts," he said, adding that "I think there probably will be a short-term extension."
Well, Texas elected him. And in all probability, will re-elect him.
Sure is a good thing we reelected the RINO. Things will get done!
He is an "R" after all, and we all know that the "R's" are better than the "D's"!!! Vote "R", because anything less is a vote for Hitlery!!! /sarc
I sure am glad that Texas kept its GOPee representation. Now we 6 more years of his wisdom.
We need to start a plan to replace this guy and also find a good candidate to replace Cruz after he becomes president.
It doesn’t take long to get infiltrated, does it?

He won’t run after the Pubbies give back the Senate in 2017. He likes being a big shot in the majority. He won’t like it as a nobody in the minority.
I agree. Republicans should cut off funding for PP. It would be the 'Rats then that would cause the govt shutdown.
I would never speculate such a thing from from spineless, gelded politicians.
But let's defund it. All their services are available thanks to Obamacare.

You can get a mammogram anywhere.
There is only one place you can get dead baby body parts.
In the last election, I left Cornyn and the younger Bush blank on my ballot. However, I would not be surprised if he dies in office of old age. When he runs for re-election, he's 'Big Bad John', the guy who stands up to the democrats.
He knows people don’t pay attention.
And if they are paying attention, they’ll forget by the next election.
He’s got it figured out, folks.
We heard it in Kentucky, We heard it in Mississippi, and, at the right time, we will hear it in Texas.
