I hate these damm games the Senate plays. This is a clouture vote. Which means if passed it proceeds as a law to the seante and the senate votes on it. This should have been in the Highway Bill. Where there would have been a resonable chance of it passing and the defunding take place.

Susan Collins, Republican of Maine was the big surprise. Up to the last hour, she was wondering aloud how the nation would survive without Planned Parenthood...

Yet, she voted the right way.

So McConnell voted NO. Just another reason to be glad he won his reelection bid. /sarc

How many votes were needed for cloture?

RE: So McConnell voted NO.

Read Post #4 above to see why he voted ‘No’.

It’s TACTICAL.

If that is the case why did all other repubs votes Yea if the argument was to continue the debate at a later date (ie vote against cloture) 3/5 required. Did the repubs strategize to have all other repubs be on record to vote Yea knowing there was not enough votes to close the debate? Hmmm!

McConnell originally voted YEA, but changed it to Nay in the last minute after counting the votes.

I am not a fan of his, but I know that his Pro-Life voting record has been consistent.

This was tactical, nothing else.

"...a procedural maneuver that allows him to bring up the failed bill anytime..."

Bring it back up 48 hours after the release of each new video.

Right - so in fact, all of the GOP was on board... all but one of the Democrats voted against it.

It was a show vote. Don’t take the yeas from the GOP at face value. They knew it wouldn’t pass cloture so they were free to vote that way.

Now they’ll go back to their districts and tell everybody they voted to defund PP when in fact this was not an actual vote to defund PP.

Understood, but how many yea votes will stand when it comes to the real thing? They vote yea this time and it will still not pass under procedural motions. Collins and a couple others will change to nay the next time around. They got their yea votes in this time for people to see.

This was NOT a fair vote. It was a RIGGED vote, The Dems and GOP leadership knew EXACTLY how many votes they needed to kill the anti-Planned Parenthood initiative. That snake Manchin and the other snake from Illinois were given permission by the White House to vote with the GOP on this issue as Obama KNEW how many votes they actually needed to kill it and how important it was to make Manchin and the Kirkwood look good to their conservative constituents on this empty gesture to assure re-election.
Is ANYBODY surprised at what McConnell did? Lindsey voted to kill the initiative by being somewhere else.

There is only ONE party - the Republicrats. They conspire and plot to defraud and cheat the public and play with public opinion too keep themselves in power. This is a perfect example of their insidious duplicity.
