While officials say the water is safe for drinking, residents are urged to use caution with the water, not letting it get into their nose.
Okay. Wait. What??!!??
I am not sure I would want to trust the 'close enough for government work' attitude of those officials.

-— We want to emphasize that the water is completely safe to drink -—
They do realize that people take baths and showers, right?

BRAIN EATING AMOEBA, SO THAT EXPLAINS WHAT HAPPENED TO HER.

Now that’s a genuine “food desert” right there.
To: tacticalogic
The amoeba would probably reject her ‘brain’ tissue. They may be simple microbes, but they know what’s good to eat and what isn’t.

Seeing Texas highlighted in red is kind of scary. I used to swim often in rivers and lakes when I was a kid. Surely that microbe was around back then.

Well, I wouldn't say "nothing". Actually, you have a LOT to worry about..."

Shower heads can create aerosols, clouds of small droplets suspended in the air, which may then be inhaled.
How do the amoebae fare if dosed with a nasal spray containing colloidal silver before and after swimming? An extract of Dalea aurea (Golden prairie clover) may also be useful.

Just doing my part for natural selection. ;^)
