Senate Dems filibuster GOP bill to block fed funds for Planned Parenthood, voting down motion to move forward with bill 53-46 (needed 60)

Here are a few numbers for you.
Cecile Richards executive pay at the “nonprofit” - $500,000 annually.
In 2013, they received $540 million in government funding. Imagine what that cumulative number is over 40 years.
They have laundered this blood money back to primarily Democrat politicians and lefty campaigns to the tune of $30 million between 1989 and 2014.
So, not only do taxpayers get to pay for their barbaric practices, we help fund the campaigns of those who protect it.
Two Dems voted ‘yes’: Manchin and Donelly
Two Repubs voted no: Kirk and McConnell
Graham didn’t vote.
Everyone else voted along party lines.
There will be no CWII. At least not in the conventional sense. I know it is helpful for some to bluster and throw that out there. But to your point I do think there will be tipping points and civil disobedience etc but no mobilized war. There are damn few patriotic statesmen around like there were in the 1860s. No politicians are calling for a civil war. Not even one that I know of. This vote demonstrates how bad things are.
Harry Reid used to force votes just to give candidates an issue to run on to club Republicans over the head with. Why won't Republicans in Congress use votes to do the same thing for their candidates?

I will have no issue leaving the party then
Thanks for the update.
It’s like the Texas “secession” threads.
I always tell them to ping me when the first Gov, Lt Gov, SoS, Atty Gen, or member of the Legislature advocating it gets elected.
So attach the bill to a must pass budget. Reconciliate it.
So sick of the weak and feckless GOP.
The fact that the amendment wasn't allowed, and that the amendment is alive as a stand-alone bill, does not preclude attempting to attach it to literally everything that comes along.
Plus, it's only dead as a stand-alone bill because McConnell chooses to not keep it up. As a matter of parliamentary procedure, the bill is very much alive. Failed cloture does not kill anything. Cloture is just a tool to regulate the amount of debate on a subject, so one or two miscreants can't keep debate alive over the wishes of a supermajority that is ready to vote.
Thank you, I was hoping that it was some sort of procedural deal having to do with bringing it up again.
When Reid went nuclear on nominations, McConnell the liar promised to do the same with LEGISLATION when the GOP retook the Senate.
He lied about that too.
There is NOTHING stopping this senile old bastard from going nuclear except it would empower Conservatives.
I don't think the desire to crush Planned Parenthood in the interest of saving human life is an impotent sentiment.
Somehow I don't think God would, either.
Do we really deserve God’s mercy, maybe His wrath is beginning to become apparent.
Thanks.
I don’t want to do this anymore.
I don’t want to be a species that makes an industry of slaughtering its young.
I don’t want to be told that we are going to find a cure for cancer in the ripped apart limbs and organs of babies.
I don’t want a cure for cancer if it comes from there.
I’d rather have cancer and the ability to say that others did not die so that I may live, but I don’t even believe that’s why they are doing this anyway.
They are doing this because they are monsters.
It’s as demonic as anything in the pit of Hell...pure black evil.
In a sane world, not one of them, Republican or Democrat, would hesitate to defund Planned Parenthood. It isn’t a political issue.
This is kabuki dance as all spending originates in the House. They could eliminate funding, but you know that will not happen either.
Because some of us are actually about more than “the issue.” We actually care about winning “the issue,” not just running on it. A little too much of that the last 10 years.
If so he should (proudly) make that known... otherwise..
It was because of another one of those arcane Senate rules, which allows the Majority leader to bring the bill back up again at any time. Reid use to do this all the time.
This isn’t an issue.
This is from Hell.
