HARRISBURG A Delaware man was killed with his own gun after a botched attempt to invade a Steelton home.
The fatal shooting started as a John Doe case, with the victims saying they did not know the man or his accomplice, Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick said Tuesday afternoon.
While the coroner's office has since identified the man killed in the incident, Hetrick said he is withholding the name to allow the man's wife to discuss the death with the couple's young children in Wilmington.
Hetrick described him as "a black male that is not really from this area" and estimated him to be in his mid-30s. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body in a death that Hetrick ruled a homicide.
Police have said they have not filed charges in the Lincoln Street shooting because it appears that shots were fired in self-defense. Hetrick echoed the belief....

One of the worst headlines ever! Should read “HOME INVADER killed with own gun” The way it’s written, you could easily think the homeowner was forcibly disarmed, then shot.
I hate this title. At first I thought it was the home owner.
A better title;
“Delaware home invader killed with own gun in Steelton home invasion, shooting: Dauphin County coroner”
lol, like minds
Yeah I had to go read the whole article to figure out it was the Victim who broke free and got one of the invaders guns and pumped him fill of lead.
GOOD SHOOT.
That's for sure. Like many others, I thought that the homeowner had been killed with his own gun while trying to defend himself.
I'm glad to hear that the person killed was one of the perps (if anyone had to die in the first place, which is regrettable).
Who wrote this piece? It is simply AWFUL ‘reporting’.
Yes, but it could well have been intentionally misleading as opposed to your every day journalistic illiteracy. The title probably conveyed the erroneous message the reporter and paper wanted, the foolish home owner got shot trying to defend himself from a member of the favored feral class.
I’d have to agree with that.
It led me to believe they were going to milk the loss of life to owning a gun.
Then I read the article and the invader was killed with his own gun.
Where this still gets dicey for me, is if the owner had the gun, could he still claim fear of loss of life or self defense.
Doesn’t matter to me, but I am thinking liability for the home owner.
Could probably not pick a more difficult place to pull off a home invasion in Dauphin County if you tried. The people in Steelton are working class children and grandchildren of hard-scrabble Mill Hunkies. Good for the homeowner.
This is the worst kind of home invasion.
Men who appear to be uniformed police break into your home, screaming at you. If you shoot them and they are home invaders, it’s “have a nice day”; but if they did *exactly* the same thing, and they actually *were* police, you have committed criminal homicide.
This, alone, is good enough reason to resurrect the 4th Amendment protections against unwarranted police raids.
That is exactly what I thought.
So did I. The nerds that come up with these things are functionally illiterate.
Black home invader shot and killed by a white homeowner?
Something tells me, the homeowner will be charged with at least manslaughter. If convicted the sentence is fairly short and in the over riding interest of Civil Rights, Black Lives Mattering and peace in Harrisburg that white guy is expendable.
