Death threats have been sent to the American dentist who killed Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe earlier this month amid growing anger over the protected animal's slaughter.
Tributes to the butchered lion have poured in thousands of miles away at Dr Walter Palmer's office in Bloomington, Minnesota, where protesters dressed as 'dentist hunters' also threw stuffed lions at his house.
Celebrities including models Cara Delevingne and Candice Swanepoel have also blasted the dentist, calling him a 'poor excuse of a human being'.

I oppose illegally enticing a lion off a reserve and killing it in an area where it is still illegal. I also oppose abortion. There is no way I’d support this dentist’s business. Heck, I won’t knowingly support ANY dentist who makes that much money. It tells me he is charging me too much.
It’s just that the way people are reacting towards this guy, you’d think he’d personally poured Zyklon-B crystals into the Gas Chambers at Auschwitz.
So fine, what I think about all this (in no particular order:
Safari hunting brings a lot of money to local African economies and it is racist, yes I said it, racist to think that African countries cannot manage their game species themselves WITHOUT YOUR INPUT.
Zimbabwe is a very, very poor country, mostly because they are communists. They are ranked 175 in economic freedom. Botswana is ranked 36. If I had the money to safari hunt (which I don’t) I would hunt in Botswana.
Did you read the part about the lion having to be killed with a rifle 40 hours after initially being shot? This is, I’m sure, not typical, but several hours does seem to be typical for bow hunting. This leads me to question how ethical bow hunting is. Is it ethical to wound an animal and track him for hours when you have the technology to kill him instantly, entirely for the challenge of it? I know lots of bow hunters. they seem to be nice enough guys. I’m certainly not saying it should be illegal or anything. But, for myself, I would rather use appropriate technologies that are available to me. I would prefer to hunt with a black colored semi automatic rifle, of an appropriate caliber, with pistol a grip, scope and a silencer the day after using an RPV to spot the game. But that’s just me.
I find the “cowardly” comments very amusing. Some keyboard commando who is afraid to eat non organic bananas because of the pesticides is concerned whether hunting lions WITH A BOW is sufficiently dangerous to be morally acceptable. I think that’s funny.
The lion had a collar on and was lured off the preserve. Hunting? the guide should be charged.
People are really starting to scare me.
Uhh...how much do you really think went to animal conservation? I would bet $0.
I don't mind hunting if the animal is used for food, but to kill an animal for "fun" is just wrong.
I don’t know...possibly some amount did. Do you “know”?
Bear in mind the the next male in the pride is going to try to kill his offspring. He reportedly had sired 24 cubs. That’s two dozen more which will likely die as a result of this.
If your guide lures your prey out of a protected reserve, I wouldn't count on him being too ethical. So while I haven't heard if any of the costs went to "conservation" or not, I would bet that it went into the "guides" pockets.
Anyone throwing anything at my house will cause me to throw things back and they’ll be moving in excess of 1,000 FPS.

People seem to be missing the larger issue here, which is plainly stated in the article-the ass**** “hunter” had his guides lure a tame animal out of a park where it was living protected-he broke the law-so let the Zimbabwe park fine the living crap out of him.
I’m not a member of PETA-I do hunt-only animals I will eat, such as deer, quail, etc. I have zero liking and respect for “trophy hunters”-they often leave animals in the field, wasting the meat-just taking the head to the taxidermist-even though the law states that you transport your kill out. They also lure, feed and shoot tame animals-that is not “hunting”...
Zimbabwe guide coaxed the lion off the reserve?
Shot with bow & arrow, had to track down (40hrs) and killed with rifle?
It’s a politically correct world we live in nowadays. A lion is more important than humans. Palmer has done a service pointing out this sad state of affairs.
People hunt open meadows because that’s where their primary animal’s food source is, it lures them out of the brush. People hunt corn and bean field because it lures the deer out of the wood’s. We hunt over water and grain field’s because that’s what lures waterfowl in. People hunt area’s that lure animal’s to them and have done it for centuries. As far as this cat goes I’d like to see the evidence that they lured him off, most likely he wandered off following the smell of bait hanging in a tree, a standard method for hunting big cat’s in Africa. As for the collar I’m not sure he saw it since the cat was shot at night or the mane may have covered it. they spent 40 hours trying to recover this animal which tell me allot when many would have given up after a few hour’s. Add in that they contacted the authorities and told them what took place. An unfortunate incident maybe but a criminal act?
Your post makes sense, therefore you are insensitive.
Of course the guy paid for a hunt. He was told, hey, there’s your shot. He took the shot. They made sure it was tracked and found.
“...they spent 40 hours trying to recover this animal which tell me allot when many would have given up after a few hours.”
Does he get the $55,000 back if they couldn’t find the lion after he stuck it? Or does he get to try to kill another one? Because if not, I can’t imagine many would have given up if the lion was worth $55,000 them in the first place.

The one at the back left is making sure the camera (and thus, everyone) is watching her. Vanity and striving after the wind.... lol
I'm in tears. Selling everything and heading to Africa to make this matter right. Give me instructions...
If I read the earlier article correctly, he baited outside the permitted hunting area and shot the elderly lion illegally. Its pretty indefensible imho.
Everyone involved in this matter on BOTh sides should IMMEDIATELY transfer their weapons to me.
