Donald Trump catapulted himself into the spotlight with his gilded real estate ventures and vibrant personality. The latter is what has made his show "The Apprentice" such a huge success. And over the years, he's had an opinion or two about the business world. "In the end, you're measured not by how much you undertake but by what you finally accomplish," Trump once said. But like any successful business person, Trump has had his share of setbacks. Here, we present to you 12 Trump businesses that went belly up or no longer exist.

Better to try and fail than never try.

And Trump definitely tries.

Every entrepreneur knows the risk of starting a business. Not every one of them is going to make it. That’s life.

Having a business fail is not something to be ashamed of. It takes courage to take a risk.

What *is* something to be ashamed of is having an opportunity, but being too timid to act. Read what Jesus said about the guy who buried his talent instead of investing it, for fear of losing it. It didn’t go well for him.

So what? Most would have folded their tent long ago and given up. All this tells me is that he is not a quitter. You will never fail if you do not take risks. It is what you do after falling down that counts.

Ya got to know when to fold 'em.

Speaking of which, when has the government ever folded a failing program?

Maybe President Trump will eliminate a dozen failed federal programs?

Be still, my foolish heart!

Harlan Sanders had a gas station he owned go out of business. When he tried again, he started serving fried chicken out of it. I heard that did fairly well.

Donald trump has experienced going through bankruptcy and making businesses viable once again.

Trump is a $10 billion dollar failure leading in the polls to be the GOP nominee, who has orchestrated the discussion in congress and in the media to what he wanted ... when no one could figure out how to do that.

What’s important is the businesses once existed. The fact they are gone is testimony to the difficulty of maintaining a business

Any one that has not has a failing or bankrupt business is lazy or at least not trying hard enough.

I think of the Department of Education and the EPA and even the IRS.

All have failed and are sucking up resources best used elsewhere

It would appear that you are not able to properly evaluate that which you think you have learned. Trump can recognize the failures and eliminate them.

meanwhile..... Go Scott!

I guess I would counter with some examples of others’ creations that have not failed - to our evident evident demise.

SSA - FDR
Great Society - LBJ
EITC - RM Nixon
Prescription Medicare - GW Bush
PPACA - Obama

These are just a very few; there are many, many others like them.

My point in this is to beg the question. If Trump started these failed businesses, who lost? Were the taxpayers on the hook like for the few examples I cited and the dozens and dozens of others that are out there?

Did he unilaterally impose a tax, fee, penalty or assessment on taxpayers at the virtual point of a gun to fund them?

Failure of a venture is tuition paid in the school of hard knocks.

If the learning experience was applied, then, perhaps, it was a good investment after all.
