Required to Apply for Permits to Park on Their Own Driveway
Moonbattery ^ | July 24, 2015 | Dave Blount

Once our homes were our castles. Now they are the government’s. Not even the most trivial details of how we make use of our own property escapes bureaucratic regulation in the name of the environment. For example: Cobb County [Georgia] is telling a Kennesaw family to apply for permission to park their kids’ cars in their own driveway. The Oviedo family got a notice of violation for having four cars in the driveway. The family has relatives visiting and two kids home from college. … They got a visit Friday from code enforcement, acting on an anonymous complaint. The neighborhood is zoned an Open Space Community. A recent rule changed, and enacted a limit of two cars parked in the drive.

I think I see your problem, right there.

I looked in the phone book, and there isn't any A Nonymous who lives in town, but they are the source of virtually every code enforcement complaint.

just another swarm of officers sent out to eat up our substance.

Another way for pissants to have a HOA without anyone signing jack.

This is a county-wide issue, not just a HOA.

If more city council members got recalled, there would be fewer cases like this. There has to be common sense applied, which is seriously lacking.

Cobb county.

Passed legislation requiring all citizens to own guns.

Cobb county had just passed resolution condemning gay lifestyle. During the 1996 Olympics years ago in Atlanta, the Olympic committee required Cobb county to rescind the resolution or the prelim volleyball would be moved out of Cobb county to somewhere else. Cobb county said bye.

When the public transit rail was designed and passed, Cobb county refused it to go through its property because they didn’t want undesirables to come in.

The Supreme Court decision against "unintentional discrimination" is going to have communities begging for stuff like this. Some (not all) people coming from the inner cities will bring their old cars, messy lawns, lack of familiarity with maintaining property with them.

I don't like their being laws for everything, makes one feel like a prisoner in their own home. Just don't know what the answer is when civilized behavior breaks down.

I would find out exactly what I could do to legally annoy my neighbors, and then let it be known that I was doing this for the next month in response to some a-hole on the block that was using these outdated, overly intrusive, statist laws against me - and that if it happened again, the next time it would be longer - or maybe even permanent.

So whatever it was - some ugly lawn ornament, a barking dog, endless yard sales of worthless junk on that no one would buy, or whatever else I could get away with, everyone would just have to suck it up and deal with that for a while - unless of course the jerk that reported me wanted to stop being anonymous, apologize, and promise to not do that again.

Wow, that’s an infraction? In our town (So. SF, CA) there’s people parking up on the sidewalk (passenger side wheels), making it difficult to walk the sidewalks. Complaints go no where and nothing is done. I witnessed a neighbor down the block having to drive his wheelchair into the street to get around the parked cars on the sidewalk, getting stopped by a cop and given a ticket! I went over and consoled the handicapped guy, and the stone-faced cop wouldn’t stop writing a ticket for driving a wheelchair in the street because of cars on the sidewalk! Cops in So. SF don’t care. Also have a neighbor who parks a car on the front lawn, tacky but none of my business. Hard to push a baby stroller on a blocked sidewalk, forcing one into the street. Cobb County is too picky.

Some peeps just need to have a vehicle parked on them.

Free Parking is what made America great.

Don't forget it.

“family visiting,”

Just who are they?

What’s the purpose for their visit? Do they have a Regional Border Transit Pass? How many are visiting? Do they have authorization to be absent from their government work assignments? If so were the requests made at least one year in advance of the visit? Why did they choose to drive automobiles instead of riding an earth friendly bike? Are their shot records up to date? Are they eating healthy on this visit? Are they missing any of the required Diversity Is Our Strength Siminars by participating in this visit? Are they exceeding the alotted time for use of air conditioning on this visit. Have they paid their EPA imposed mileage tax for this visit.
Did they conduct and submit the required Environmental Impact Study for this visit? Are there any wetlands on the property they are visiting? (Reminder that now this could be where the dog took a piss once)
What are they watching on TV during this visit? Have they submitted an itemized list and schedule of approved TV programming they desire to watch? Has a local political agent been assigned to monitor and record this visit. Have they submitted their applications for entry in the next Hunger Games?

I would go to the city hall and apply for a building permit for a tool shed of approximately five feet by five feet of width and depth. I would build it in the exact likeness as an outhouse complete with a quarter moon cut out and make it look like inside it was an outhouse but not have an actual hole in the seat. Maybe put a busted rake in it etc. The door would be facing the street and look as if it were a functional Throne. I wouldn’t put any valueable tools in it and would make certain the door stayed open so thieves would know the “tool shed” was empty LOL. Making frequent trips by family members outside to the tool shed would be done as well.

The next time an article gets posted about overpopulation and the swarm of reflex posters reappears pooh-poohing the problems of overpopulation, consider this kerfuffle which is really quite trivial.

Our conception of property rights was created at a time when America was a vast wilderness and we only sparsely populated a thin strip along the Atlantic coast. To the west was a vast fastness of wilderness where one could go, clear the land, live out of sight and out of mind of our neighbors and dispose of our property as we individually and alone saw fit. Today we are a country of 315 million people, the population has more than doubled in my lifetime, much of that population increase consists of people who do not share my culture, my language, my very Teutonic conception of orderliness, my sense of civic responsibility.

So people who are as tight-assed as I am seek to have their environment ordered according to their lights. I don't want my neighbor's front yard to have a disused toilet bowl as a planter, I do not want to see his car up on blocks, I do not want him posting commercial signs. In short I want him to have a nice, well groomed, Protestant appearance to his half-acre.

I do not live in the wilderness, I grew up in a leafy suburban upper-middle-class town built largely after World War II. I cannot escape my neighbor therefore I must regulate him but because I need to regulate him I must equally submit myself to regulation. There is the rub.

I am afflicted with normal human nature, I want my neighbor to be regulated according to my tastes but I want to be free of the appearance police myself. When my neighbor is regulated it is to keep property values up but when I am regulated it is fascism on the hoof.

Not only are we imprisoning ourselves in gated gulags in order to avoid the onrush of population which doubles every century, we are desperately trying to protect ourselves from foreign and alien cultures who do not conceive of well manicured lawns as a desirable or even normal way of living. We can no longer flee these people by going into the wilderness, we can only regulate them.

These are the problems that come with population and with immigration. When we try to solve them with regulation we inevitably trade away our freedoms.
