It was the spring of 1968 and Donald Trump had it good.
He was 21 years old and handsome with a full head of hair. He avoided the Vietnam War draft on his way to earning an Ivy League degree. He was fond of fancy dinners, beautiful women and outrageous clubs. Most important, he had a job in his fathers real estate company and a brain bursting with money-making ideas that would make him a billionaire.
When I graduated from college, I had a net worth of perhaps $200,000, he said in his 1987 autobiography Trump: The Art of the Deal, written with Tony Schwartz. (Thats about $1.4 million in 2015 dollars.) I had my eye on Manhattan.
More than 8,000 miles away, John McCain sat in a tiny, squalid North Vietnamese prison cell. The Navy pilots body was broken from a plane crash, starvation, botched operations and months of torture.

Just as I suspected, you have no answers. Thanks for that non answer answer. You have shown that Trumps support is a mile wide and an inch deep. Why? Because he’s no conservative.
I think so. Also, I need to correct myself - he was 7 in 1968, not 5. Still too young to be dodging the draft, though.
You got that right!
It was,and still Is the law,you have to register at 18 years of age for a draft.
I don’t care when you were born idiot,at 18 you have to register with the government for a draft, they don’t give you a card moron, its in case the draft is reinstituted
I read your question this way, would I prefer my children’s future to look like East Berlin or a trash heap in Bangladesh? Clearly, East Germany would be preferable, under any circumstance. Of course the idea is to fight to prevent these miserable options, but that’s how I see your two scenarios.
It’s not “a very important issue”, it’s the only issue. As far as gun control goes, anyone tries to take them and the war starts right then and they know it.
I’m afraid you are missing the point that I’m trying to make. Trump has raised some good points concerning our need to secure our border and do something about the illegal immigration problem. I’m glad that’s in the discussion and it certainly needs to be discussed. However, by his past statements and writings he is so wrong on so many issues that are as equally important to the conservative movement. Views that we would never accept from any of our other candidates and yet the Trump supporters seem to want to overlook all of those other issues and focus on one. I used gun control as one issue, but there are plenty more.
Lets just take gun control, would you accept a candidate that wanted to ban so-called assault weapons? My guess is that most people on this forum would not accept that position from any other candidate, but there are a group on here that are willing to overlook that with Trump, and you are one of them. Why? Why do we overlook all of his wrong headedness on so many other issues? Let’s not even get into his personal life which we would hardly put up with from any of our other candidates.
Because illegal immigration is destroying our cities and neighborhoods now, not in some theoretic scenario. Maybe not your city, maybe not your neighborhood, maybe that’s why you see it as “an issue” instead of THE issue.
Hey “idiot”, lets review your post, shall we?
“Have you ever seen Obamas draft registration card?”
Your words, not mine. Obama was born in 1961. The draft ended in 1973. Obama was 12.
He wouldn’t have a draft registration card. Now, remind me again who the idiot is?
This is an illogical argument to me.
Right now as we speak we have the gold standard for Constitutional treason in the white house. Your worst fears be they gun control or socialized medicine or whatever issue, have their nemesis *already* in place. Moreover, there is no-one else worse out there including Sanders and Shrillery. No possible stretch of your imagination can make Trump a worse threat. In truth, and you have to admit this, the worst outcome of this bet ( likely wildly incorrect ) would be a 'push'. I think it's okay to accept a push ( again, worse-case scenario! ) for many of these issues especially if the establishment is burned down and the currently subjugated TEA party congress critters are unshackled and free to do their jobs.
If Trump hypothetically can crush Boner and the (R)epublicrat power structure and does nothing else it would be worth it. Naturally he would also kick open the POW/MIA hornet nest and likely take a stab at this unbelievable concept of debt ceiling which is an infinite credit card charged to our grandkids. I'll go further and say that many of the hush-hush agreements between the two parties ( you know, protecting each other like successive presidents do ) will be null and void and then the sh!t will really hit the fan. Imagine the entertainment value.
That said, I doubt anyone has made their mind up now. Wait for New Hampshire and other primaries when the picture is clearer. But there is no earthly reason to rule him out.
The republic is on a feeding tube! Do not call Jeb Bush unless you want the patient to die.
He wouldnt have a draft registration card.
Semantics maybe? He has a card if by 'card' we mean the little card filled out at the post office. But he has something. If he doesn't he is in trouble.
Of course this assumes he is "Under current law, all male U.S. citizens are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. In addition, non-U.S.-citizen males between the ages of 18 and 25 (inclusive) living in the United States must register. This includes permanent residents (holders of Green Cards), refugees, asylees, and illegal immigrants.[2] Foreign males lawfully present in the United States who are non-immigrants, such as international students, visitors, and diplomats, are not required to register.[2] Failure to register as required is grounds for denying a petition for U.S. citizenship. Currently, citizens who are 17 and 3 months old can pre-register so when they turn 18 their information will automatically be added into the system."
Where it gets interesting for Dinglebarry ... "Until their 26th birthday, registered males must notify Selective Service within 10 days of any changes to information regarding his status, such as name, current mailing address, permanent residence address, and "all information concerning his status ... which the classifying authority mails him a request therefor."
Looks like there is a whole minefield of things he might have stepped in.
You are dope the draft ended not Registration moron
Yes I have seen the forged registration card, that’s the scandal idiot
Now if you can read this Google Obama draft registration and tell me what you see dope
