What Donald Trump was up to while John McCain was suffering as a prisoner of war
Washington Post ^ | July 20, 2015 | By Michael E. Miller and Fred Barbash

It was the spring of 1968 and Donald Trump had it good.

He was 21 years old and handsome with a full head of hair. He avoided the Vietnam War draft on his way to earning an Ivy League degree. He was fond of fancy dinners, beautiful women and outrageous clubs. Most important, he had a job in his father’s real estate company and a brain bursting with money-making ideas that would make him a billionaire.

“When I graduated from college, I had a net worth of perhaps $200,000,” he said in his 1987 autobiography “Trump: The Art of the Deal,” written with Tony Schwartz. (That’s about $1.4 million in 2015 dollars.) “I had my eye on Manhattan.”

More than 8,000 miles away, John McCain sat in a tiny, squalid North Vietnamese prison cell. The Navy pilot’s body was broken from a plane crash, starvation, botched operations and months of torture.

Thanks for the clarification. There is certainly plenty out there from veterans. Their beef about the POW/MIA issue while McCain was a Senator is well known. Some of them have made accusations about McCain’s misconduct as a POW, but I’ve never seen anyone who also served as a POW with McCain confirm these accusations.

“If it saved him money on costs, he had no problem with using illegals. If this was such a big issue for him, he would have let it be known to his contractors and sub contractors. Any illegals found and you’re in violation of the contract. He only cares now because he’s running for President!”

You made this up out of whole cloth. Prove Trump hired illegals intentionally, prove it. I want actual proof from you or anyone out there, not just innuendo, actual proof. Come on big guy, prove it, put your proof where your mouth is.

And you haven’t a clue what Trump’s instructions were to his subcontractors regarding illegals, unless you live inside Trump’s head. And you have no basis for stating he did’t care if illegals were hired or not because you don’t know, you just made this up. Wow, you are one deceptive dude, aren’t you.

I know he didn't mind having them because they were working for him. You just see what you want to see because you have been taken in by the Svengali that is Donald Trump. Do you like universal healthcare? Trump does. Is that a view we want our candidate to have?

What is Trump doing now while McCain is facilitating the invasion of the country? A little more relevant.

I don’t think they get him at all. He has a typically urban sense of humor - Jewish humor which is NYC specialty.

Oh Horsehocky! "opposing the war for isolationist beliefs" is just camouflaging cowardice with pretend patriotism. The Cold War was in full cry and we were facing thermonuclear war - just exactly how was "isolationism" possible?

Everyone knew from the beginning that the Lefties want the US to stay out and once in, fail.

I reiterate: those who served were the best this country had. The ones that stayed away for fear they'd get punctured, whatever dodge they used, were not patriots. They were every bit as much the enemy as Jane Fonda's PCPJ.

Agree to disagree. I watched the video about ten times and think it was a nothinburger slight tossed at McCain alone. He is a big boy and since he likes to call others crazy, he had it coming.

I’ll take your word for it as I don’t live in NYC, but I do know that Trump can be very funny, uses humor as a weapon sometimes, and is good at it. He makes me laugh. I love good usage of humor. It’s what gets us through in life. Laughter, the balm of life.

As I said, I might have been wrong about it being a POW who said he had made video tapes but I’m sure I read a good article a couple of nights ago when checking out another FR thread, I just can’t find the link. I guess I should have bookmarked it...there’s some good info out there, I don’t have a lot of time to do much searching today, I’ll try to remember to poke around a bit more later.

I didn’t find a couple of things I remember seeing....894 in a class of 899, details of planes he lost, drunk & disorderly and insubordination while in the academy...more than once...

What was Trump doing while McCain was a POW? I’m not sure and don’t care. I know what I was doing. I was in the Navy and I hate McCain’s guts.

As pointed out in another thread, you are talking about the Iowa poll where trump actually gained ground. Try again. And enough with the caps.

Yes, close your mind off to the facts. I guess the reporters that went out there and found them were lying or maybe the workers just wanted to lie to get their boss in trouble. I applied common sense to the reports out there. That may be hard for you to do in Trump's case because you are so on his bandwagon. It amazes me that people overlook all his faults because he said a few correct things about illegal aliens and now he's a saint....

At what point do we stop at deferments and cross the bridge to draft dodging? Anyone can invent a reason to avoid service in time of war. So where does it stop?

Lying. Breaking the law. Fleeing the country.

IMHO.

Same as the difference between taking every single tax deduction/credit to which one is entitled, and tax evasion.

The Washington Post reporters couldn’t prove that there were illegals working there, when the reporters were questioned about this. So you sure as heck can’t. You’re just a liar who doesn’t like Trump. Once again prove it, bigmouth.

Well, this is getting us no where as you refuse to believe the reports. That’s fine, and I guess you enjoy ad hominem attacks on me also, that’s fine. Just a question? Do you support universal healthcare? Trump wrote in favor of it in 2000. Do you want to support a candidate that favors universal healthcare? We had one last time (Romney), if you have your way we will have another one.

This is pointless and a waste of my time. Go argue with someone else or with yourself. If you argue with yourself, you’ll always get the answers you want. Buzz off.

The laughable part about this is that all the people here that criticize Trump keep mentioning conservative issues that Trump has never been on the right side of in the past. Like it even matters!

No border, no country! What don’t you understand? If you are worried about Trumps statements about healthcare you must be living in one of the very rapidly shrinking Whitbread parts of this country. Healthcare? Really? How many times has your car been broken into this month?

I was born in 1964 too. I filled out the registration card and turned it in but never got anything back. I went into the Army anyway in 1983. :-)
