It’s the food, stupid.
RE: Its the food, stupid.
Why did it take so many decades for people to discover this?
Use beef tallow when you make the fries.
People will come.
My numbers are not good due to new competitors OFFERING BETTER FOOD, one franchisee said.
McDonald’s markets to the ghetto. Walk into any McDonald’s and count the Caucasians. Typically they’ll be vastly outnumbered. To tell you the truth, IF the food was worth a damn, I’d be afraid to go into a McDonald’s.
[McDonalds outlook bleak in face of minimum wage hikes]
McDonalds outlook bleak in wake of Gibbs hiring. Fixed
It’s their targeted marketing campaign.
Too many things on the menu. Remember when it used to be just cheeseburgers, hamburgers, quarter pounders, big macs, fries, apple pies and shakes on the menu? I think McDonald’s needs to simplify the menu. Their food has always been crap but that didn’t stop them from making billions, but we kept going back. Get back to basics.
Why did it take decades for people to discover this? Because they were on every corner and there wasn’t much competition. Now everywhere there is a new McDonald’s there are three or four other new fast food joints next door and across the street.
Where I live the Chick fil A is always packed. The McDonald’s is usually empty. Whenever I drive by all I can think is “I’m lovin’ it!”
Just be up front about it.
If certain religious groups don’t want to eat there, don’t!
Well this can’t be. The Regressives have all told us that the the hit to overhead was less than nothing, that owners (franchisees) would absorb any losses, and besides....fairness.
I wonder how many burgers are being bought by those newly unemployed fairnesses?
The logistics would probably be too much, but imagine a McDonald’s where you could older the “Tasty Fries” or else the “Healthy Fries”. Run that experiment for 6 months and then decide which is generating more sales. Choice is always good. And if some people decide to stay away entirely, that’s OK too.
Even if they get the food right, it's the ingredients. Would it cost them any more to have whole-grain and gluten-free bread options? To drop the high fructose corn syrup? To offer a potato with skins still on?
Look at Panera. They're the ones going all-in with healthy food, they're expensive, and they can't open stores fast enough to meet demand.
PS: I got my $1 McChicken no bun today. Looking at the menu, except for the $1 menu, McDonald's isn't inexpensive, not at all. Maybe if they paid more and hired more competent employees, they'd solve some of their problems.
“New Fries” or “Fries Classic”... :)
Seriously, how much of their customer base would they lose? I can’t think, overall, that it would be that many.
The "Ahm Luvin It" campaign and the paper tray liners printed up ads for jobs and management opportunities. Shows all kinds of faces...No Whites. No business from me in YEARS. Dirty stores and half their employees have little command of the English Language. Mushy burger dump.
There are too many competitors offering a superior product in a much better atmosphere.
Up and coming chains like Chipotle; P.F. Chang; Qdoba; Panera Bread; Chick-Fil-A; Firehouse Subs...the list goes on and on.
In these new brightly lit places, you will see scores of upscale, upwardly mobile people in stylish clothing, tapping away on their mobile devices as they stand in line to receive their food. Everything is high tech, swipe, swipe and swipe and you are either eating at a clean table or taking your food out in very attractive packaging.
These are cheerful "hip and happening" places, and nobody under the age of 30 in a decent income bracket would be caught dead in a McDonald's restaurant.
Walk into a McDonalds and you are confronted with the ghetto, welfare crowd. Or the elderly fixed income crowed. Everybody else has gone upscale. Fast food has been gentrified.
It stopped being about the food a long time ago.
“gluten free” quarter pounders? Yeah...that’s the winning formula.
And let's face it, that particular demographic isn't exactly very picky when it comes to what they choose to put into their bodies.
Ditto
MacDonald’s food is crap; has been for years and years.
“PS: I got my $1 McChicken no bun today. Looking at the menu, except for the $1 menu, McDonald’s isn’t inexpensive, not at all”
I;m not a snob like other Freepers.
Not a lot of people have money to pay for $10 combos at Sonic or Whataburger. And it’s more complicated than the “food” or prices. People have no clue that the $1 menu burgers got me thru college when I had no money and starving. And forget about Sonic. that TV commercial had 2 faggots which turned me off.
