A recruiter at the Armed Forces Recruiting Center in Gainesville brought a gun inside the center Friday and accidentally shot himself in the leg, police said.
It wasnt immediately clear why the unidentified recruiter brought the gun to the Dawsonville Highway center. Soldiers are not allowed to bring weapons inside the center, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Given recent incidents in Chattanooga we know the public may be concerned about the police presence, there is no need for public alarm, this was an accidental shooting, Gainesville police said in a statement on the departments Facebook page.
The recruiter was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center after the incident, which occurred about 11 a.m., according to Channel 2. His condition was not known.

He should get a Purple Heart.. sad we have come to the point where he would need to carry just to go to work.
I find it odd you find the story so important? What is your ulterior motive for further propagating this anti military propaganda?
Oh we discuss everything here. lol. I think having a weapon in the office with a sharp shooter is a good idea. Nobody is really disagreeing with this except to say that not all military personnel are proficient in weaponry and getting weapons to every military personnel in one day would be virtually impossible.
Oh you are so funny. Anti-Military.....such a silly person. Is this not a current story that has EVERYTHING to do with what is going on with figuring out what they are going to do to protect military personnel. Perhaps you never served your country, but I did so I have a realistic view of it. Some have some fantasy of what they want or think they want but have zero experience in what they are saying. 24 years of military gives me 100 percent authority to discuss and post this story. Don’t like it..............you are hereby relieved of this thread.
Looks like he did a Plaxico Burress on his self.

NEW YORK — One-time Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday for violating New York’s stringent gun laws and was immediately taken into custody following his hearing.
Burress agreed to a plea deal last month and pleaded guilty to a lesser firearms charge. The charges stemmed from an incident late last fall, in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub with a gun that had not been licensed in New York.
He is expected to serve about 20 months with credit for good behavior — meaning he could be released as early as the spring of 2011 — followed by two years of probation.
Burress arrived at the courthouse at 9:41 a.m. ET on Tuesday wearing a jeans and a long-sleeved T-shirt, a stark contrast to the dark blue suit he wore last month when he entered his guilty plea.
He was accompanied by his pregnant wife, Tiffany; his almost 3-year-old son, Elijah, whom he carried; his father and stepmother; and his grandmother.
i believe this guy is a liberal who decided to take a bullet for the team.
Guys like this are the reason the military is a fun and interesting career choice. I wonder how the line of duty investigation will go?
Well that is an interesting thought.............I would love to find that out. I think you could be on to something. I never thought of that at all.
With the new Glock .380 (Gl 42?), expect a lot more of these.
Yahoos will drop these nifty little guns in their pants pockets—no training, no holster, no safety, round in chamber: “negligent discharge”.
Hopefully they’ll miss their femoral artery. Or you.
I know. One of our Friends just said that it could be a liberal who took one for the team just as you see could happen. If true, then those liberals are sneaky little bastards.
Some are saying Dishonorable Discharge but I think he will get a slap on the wrist because he can always say he feared for his life and today that would work.....I think.
Good point. Hell yeah, I’d say I was afraid that some raghead was going to barge in and shoot me so I was nervous. Time to throw the BS back at the libs.
I went to a public gun range when I was on active duty. Range time was usually limited to mandatory quals and honestly, military ranges aren’t much fun.
LOD is only important if they don’t chapter him out. I’m guessing he gets the BCD, maybe some time in Leavenworth to make a point.
You are probably right. They come down very hard on motorcycle riders for not wearing all the required BS, this is actually a pretty serious violation.
Recruiter Fife.
They’re not trained to handle concealed weapons in violation of military policy.
If it were on his belt holster openly and allowed by policy, there wouldn’t have been a problem. Instead, he was faced with engage in illegal carry or be a sitting duck in hunting season. Some people do not hassle illegal carry well.
Could we please not give them Glocks. 1911’s are safer from being accidentally discharged.
HANDLE, not hassle.
