The Australian government announced plans to cull up to 2 million feral cats by 2020 in a bid to preserve dozens of native species that authorities claim face extinction because of the cats' predatory behavior.
Speaking to a national radio station, Gregory Andrews, the country's first threatened-species Commissioner, said Australian Environment Minister Greg Hunt "is declaring war on feral cats, and he's asked me to take charge of that program."

All ferals aren’t equal. There are neutered ferals who are as unobtrusive as can be. One my mom feeds is very affectionate, and yet, he is still feral. Conversely, many domesticated cats act “feral” around strangers.
Don’t paint with such a broad brush
We used to have a large whip-poor-will population in these parts, haven’t heard one for years now. They nest on the forest floor. The only thing I can think of is cats must have decimated them. I could be wrong I suppose, but it sure seems like the likeliest explanation.
Freegards
There's the crux of the issue right there.
It is THESE that should be "eliminated."
Coyotes here in Maryland are weeding out cats and small dogs with great profligacy
My mom is one of those crazy cat ladies. Not that crazy, because she has worked hard to get every single one neutered. They are now aging and slowing paring down.
Not here in western Colorado ... outdoor cats and smaller breed dogs are fair game for coyotes. One coyote den found by hikers had a interesting collection of dog collars. Almost along the line of a trophy room.
Followed by kudzu to envelop it all.
All of my cats have been rescues, and one was a feral (now an indoor princess, there are coyotes in this area). I was referring to out and out ferals, not barn cats or the “neighborhood” fellow.
I was thinking more of ones in the wild, and the damage they could do to Australia’s unique animal life.
Or Creeping Charlie, as we have up here on the Tundra. Nothing kills dat chit. ;)
Apocalypses Meow!!!!!
Understood.
No problemos FRiend.
I foresee helicopter-based cat shoots.
My grandfather fought in the First Cat War. Doesn’t talk much about it, except to say that he “saw things no man should ever see”.
Giant leopard frogs on steroids? Major food source, IMO.
When I lived in Green Bay, most seafood restaurants included frog legs on the menu. Yes, it tastes like chicken.
When Moses brought down the ten plagues on Egypt with the frogs, Pharaoh replied that he liked them fricassee’d & could stand it for as long as Moses & the frogs could.
So Moses moved on to some nastier plagues.
You thing the dingos would take care of this?
What they need is urban packs of dingos.
Another posters referenced a problem one community was having with roving bands of feral chihuahuas. Not kidding!
I’ve had frog legs through the years. Alligator and snake, too. Texture like lobster, IMHO, which is basically a Sea Cockroach, LOL!
