The Bible = Word of God gives not one hint, this earth is young. Peter says there are three heaven/earth ages. All souls were created at the same time, and all souls are given the opportunity to take this flesh journey. Evolution is from the devil who has already been judged and sentenced to death. He intends to take with him as many as will.
All souls were created at the same time??
Where is that in the Bible?
It’s a good point that any reference to the age of the Earth in the bible is as a reference to extreme age. But the young-earth creationists assertions are based on an admittedly straightforward reading of the sixs day of Genesis. My contradiction to them has always been simply that the bible itself says that to God a day is a thousand (which itself is a figure of speech for a “zillion”) years.
Likewise, the bible says the whole world was flooded in Genesis. But Luke says the entire world was in uproar with King Herod.
From there, I don’t know WHAT you are talking about.
As for me, all I can say is that the universe appears old. But then, I’m sure Adam looked like an adult on the eighth day, not a zygote. I don’t see why “creation scientists” feel the need to prove the Earth doesn’t appear old.
Results? People have left the church, excellent Sunday School teachers have quit, and the collective IQ of the congregation has dropped.
Both ends of the Bible are filled with allegory and figurative language. Not even the YEC crowd believes literal scorpions with the hair of women, faces of men and fire shooting from their rears will persecute the earth, as stated by John the Revelator. Their dodge on that is a man seeing the future revealed by God having to describe the events using the only terms he knew.
I believe God revealed the creation process to Moses. Moses looked at the crowd of brick masons, plumbers and goldsmiths and decided to “sum up” using language understood by the crowd.
God is not the author of confusion, but Ken Ham seems to be great at it.
A question for you YEC folk: How do you KNOW the first three days were exactly 24 hours long since the sun was not placed until the third day?
