Two sisters are selling tickets for a party to raise money to enable their mother to commit suicide at a Swiss clinic.
Jackie Baker, 59, wants to travel to the Dignitas euthanasia clinic after developing motor neurone disease in February.
Her daughters Tara O'Reilly and Rose Baker are desperately trying to raise £8,000 so their mother can "die with dignity" in Switzerland.
Hairdresser Tara, 40, is selling tickets for a girls night out with drag artist and playboy waiters to raise the funds for her mother.
Tara said: "It's what she wants. We were very upset at the beginning but I think we have come around to it now.

Interesting what some people think "dignity" is all about.
If you want her dead that badly, take her outside and shoot her in the head. Much cheaper.
I don’t really see any major difference between that, and the Swiss option.
Maybe they could sell tickets to a raffle. The winner gets to inject the lethal dose.
Wow. Socialism is more expensive then I thought. 8,000 euro is somewhere around 10 grand. So much for that free medical from birth to death. Liberals are such liars.
If that’s what they want to do, fine with me...as long as my taxes don’t EVER pay for it anywhere.
$12,000 for a dignified death.
Holy crap a $20 dollar bottle of Valium will take care of it.
They can get it over the counter in most countries.
I don't think they have guns in England.
Besides, if mom wants to be dead that bad, she should just do it herself and not put that blood on anyone else s hands.
Especially the women she birthed.
Hey! Here’s an idea!
How about instead of hiring STRIPPERS, you two ‘daughters’ put your own lives on hold for a while, move your Mom to a comfortable setting, maybe into one of your homes? (*GASP*) and with the help of Hospice Care (or whatever they call it across the pond), keep her comfortable and let her end her life surrounded by loved ones?
Or can’t you be BOTHERED?
Gee. What a concept! So FOREIGN to CARE for our own ELDERLY in this day. They are as much OUR responsibility as adults, as we were to them as babes!
We did this for my StepMom and she died (bone cancer) properly medicated and not in pain, with all of us touching her and telling her how much we LOVED her.
I know. We’re weird that way in my family. :)
I agree. It’s their mom and if that’s what SHE wants and nobody gets hurt, sure. let er rip.
Lots of trains there, just shove her in front of one and save the $20.
Well in honesty that might not be as dignified as she’s hoping for.
I predict a lot of screaming and blood with that method! :0
They are Swiss right? Heck just take her to the top of one of those tall mountains, and say Mom we’ve arranged for a flying lesson for you.
Throw Granny off a cliff?
and I bet you can read and write in cursive too/s
HOORAY for the “Old School” where family meant FAMILY
I have nothing in common with this family except sympathy for their mother and regret for the position she has put her daughters in. I cannot judge them by what I know. I’m not there.
Oops!
Some liberal is out there making a commercial from my suggestion as we speak.
My bad. :)
8000 pounds or euro, whatever it is, to kill yourself? Geesh. There’s lots of cheaper ways to do that. Bullet through the head. 2 meters of rope. Drugs. Booze. Drowning. High buildings. Cold. asphyxiation. Heck, she’s not far from Paris. Head over to one of the no go zones with a Muhammed cartoon.
why don’t they just sell their own bodies to the ticket buyers, that way they won’t have to spend any of the ticket money on party items and thus they will get their mother dead even quicker?
Said in sarcastic discust of the two sisters.
Legal death-with-dignity, euthanasia, mercy-killing, physician-assisted, disposal of the old and sick, would exact a huge price from all of us, and would harm us all. That price, and that harm, is the systematic corruption of the medical, legal, and political professions. This is a situation that can put anyone and everyone at risk of their lives.
Believe me, nobody is safe anywhere if the major institutions of our society are not committed to our life and health. And face it, nobody is healthier dead, but everyone is cheaper dead.
If "dead" becomes a right, it just takes a day and a half (in a manner of speaking) before it's a duty. If it's reasonable to seek death, then it'll be called unreasonable NOT to seek death. Especially if your maintenance is starting to wear on other people. Why? Because death is always going to be more cost-effective to the whole system.
If "death" becomes a right, then it will be argued --- and IS argued --- that it is a right everyone SHOULD exercise under specified circumstances, or, if you are unable to speak for yourself, this right will be exercised ON you by someone else on your "behalf". That is what has happened --- legal safeguards be damned --- in every damned place where euthanasia has been legalized.
In Belgium and the Netherlands, more people are "offed" without consent, than with consent. Including minors, including infants. Including people who had merely exhausted the patience of their adult children or their dissatisfied spouses.
Everyone knows that vulnerable people get snuffed with or without consent, even if it's against the "legal safeguards," and everyone lets it happen because the political structure, the legal system, and the medical professions have been corrupted. It is exceedingly easy to just "let" coerced, or pressured, or administratively simple non-consent "suicides" happen.
Because the "society" has been schooled into believing that it's a sensible way to benefit "society".
Do not put that kind of power into the hands of responsible. practical people who might be rather well-satisfied, all in all, if you were dead.
Dammit, leave "legality" out of it. Do it yourself.
(That last needs a /s/ because I'd also want to ban do-it-yourself kits, which would be a threat to every drunk adolescent in America.)
