So in the 1700s how did all those Irish folks end up here? They weren't all willing...

Few, if any came that early. Some of my Irish forbears came to the US in the 1820s, but they were Protestant, and probably from English ancestry. The Irish Catholics who flooded this country didn’t come till the mid-late 1800s.
