Gambling here in NY raises money for our schools. Isn’t that special.

In California we have the Lottery, funny thing how there is just never ever enough money for the schools, despite the fact that districts are selling off schools because enrollment has dropped.

Thank You for the Ping.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but I do wonder how much of it really reach "The Schools" and then how much will actually be used "For The Kids"

But the issue goes beyond legalization. I shows the lack of demand for accountability for these Agencies and their budgets.

What state legislature can turn down millions in gravy?

Just like legalized gambling, grass will go nationwide.

They could raise all the money in the world, and the students that are churned out still wouldn’t be any more educated.

“May excise tax collections reported this week showed the recreational pot tax for school construction raised $3.5 million, bringing the 2015 total to $13.7 million “

That was just part of it. In all, over $11.3 million was collected in May.

OTOH, Colorado may want to keep the money in a fund since there is a push to refund the entire amount to the taxpayers.

Since the sale of weed is an all cash business how do they collect all that tax cash? Does the state have a special armored car they drive store to store?

I think you are right, but I hope not. I like CO being unique. ;) Well us, and Oregon.

” Does the state have a special armored car they drive store to store?”

I believe there are several companies that do this. They are even used by the banks.

Which begs the other question, how much is under-reported since it is all cash?????

Our state (Indiana) made a windfall on casino gambling for about a decade.

Now that Mich, Ohio, Illinois have it, not so much.

marijuana tax for schools

That is just wrong!

That is like cigarette taxes or lottery receipts for schools.
